Yeah...The guy is annoying. Could use a new host. Wonder if Mike Rowe is interested?
But thats not why I watch it. Kinda look past him, and watch for the trains. Though do throw in a lot of history, facts and stuff like that, which make the show interesting.

And your right GEC. That bridge does look familar. I think that might be the one in Bridgeport Connecticut.

We're lucky that anything related to trains is even being aired on TV. I think you guys are being too critical. I used to be a railroader, a Trainman and Engineer, and yet I find the show entertaining. The average person has no idea what they are looking at, and if their interest isn't being held the show will get low ratings and be cancelled.

I think Dave is right....It's not geared to folks who know trains...It's for the average Joseph who might find that trains are more than just big, at times, bothersome, chunks of metal on rails....
But, whatever its faults, I like seeing trains any way I can get them..!!!

I agree - There isn't enough train stuff on TV as it is.,... Hopefully this one will last a while :D

Does anyone know if and when this series is on the History Channel in Canada? In the past, I tried searching for this info on the web (the last time I heard about such a series) and didn't get very far. Thanks, Rob

It's not rocket surgery
Hi Rob,

History Channel in the US is not linked to the one in Canada. I have not had any success finding any sort of predictable connection between what's available in the US and Canada.

Thanks, Andrew. It's helpful to know, then, that there are no connections between the two channels. In the past, I've had trouble finding this info as well. It would be great to watch some of these shows here in Canada.

If I get a moment, I might google the title of this show just to see if any of our channels have picked it up.

Take care,
Rob

The show is getting better with each episode!
Kinda short on this one as he didn't explain the Whyte System, or even mention the wheel arrangement.
A thought, even though the host can be annoying at times, its nice to have someone that actually works for a railroad, and not someone who doesn't like trains, knows nothing about trains, and is only doing the show for a paycheck(of course, I'm sure this guy isn't complaining). And just stands there reading cue cards.

I wish I could be sure we were talking about the same guy. So far, I have seen very little to indicate that he knows much beyond which end of the ch00-choo is the engine.

Oh my gosh folks! Give the guy a break!

The host is a real-life freight conductor for Pan Am Rail out of Waterville ME. Pan Am is a privately held railroad, union-free, and run like a shortline with realistic expectations. eg. Their newest locomotives are used GP40Ws from CN. Don't be surprised if he doesn't know all the lingo yet, he will. Email him, give him help and support!

I think its great to see someone with such great energy and enthusiasm for trains given an opportunity like this!

The show is fabulous!
I think the problem with most other train shows or movies is the pace of train scenes. People want action on television...and watching a train drive by at normal speed is often not exciting. Its not that the train is slow, but rather its a matter of camera perspective. Extreme Trains knows precisely when to add a little fast forward! And the camera angles are nothing but professional!

I hope that this show will help inspire a new generation of kids out there to give trains a new look! Its coming at a perfect time when the surge of Thomas the Tank generation is starting to be interested in more sophisticated programs like Dirty Jobs!

Spread the word around! Lets keep the ratings up for this series so they might consider another season!

I think Dave Hinckley from the Daily News said it best..

The problem is that despite watching Bown change a brake shoe and help load a coal car, we don't see enough of the trains themselves. We don't get a sense of their majesty and power, the pull of the locomotive, the glide of the wheels. Too much he-man technical stuff, not enough cool stuff or romance.
Bown also has one failing among his many good qualities as a host. He seems to think he needs to frame a routine daily coal train run as life-or-death drama, warning us every five minutes that if the brakes fail or the coal cars come loose, there could be a terrible wreck.
From his tone, you'd think the odds are somewhere around 50-50 and that it's a miracle any train completes its run at all.
Don't get me wrong, I like his acting on camera, and the show, it just doesn't work for me (and apparently many others)

It's a good show overall. I look past the narrator as just "show business". And it's for the train novice. Most in the US have never been on a train. We need more of these on TV.

Cheers, Bob
