Titanic build in progress now completed

Hi everyone. First let me say a big THANK YOU to RALPH CURRELL for beautiful work he's done in the design of this TITANIC kit. I have up-scaled her a wee bit, and she will be 19" long when complete. I'm enjoying this model - although i'm into Rockets, i saw this model and thought why not give it a go. My wifes Great Grandfather was a carpenter and worked on the great ship, so even more reason to build her. Hope you like the build so far. Regards. Pete.
The finished model is at the end of this thread.:thumb:

Titanic is my favorite subject. Don't forget the rip in her Starboard side. Everyone always forgets that.

Looks good so far. What is the scale?

Hold the front page !

Hi there. I guess you are wondering about the tiltle "Hold the front page" Well... The Titanic in progress ISN'T  anymore ! I got quite alot done to her since the first pictures i posted here - AND THEN - STOP !!!! I've decided that this model is so MARVELOUS i've gone for yet another UP-SCALE  I've not worked the scale out yet, but if you want to have a go she will now be 2' 3" {27"} or 68cm LONG, now that's BIG isn't it ? isn't it ? please let me know. I will upload the build when i get it to the stage where i left off on the first pictures and take a side by side shot so that you can all see the massive impact the scale change has made. She really is a BEAUTIFUL SHIP:thumb: so watch this space, i can't wait to re-start. Doing that N O W..........

Good idea Peter. Great start.

I've not seen an upscale done of this particular model. I'll watch with great interest...

That's about half scale from the one I have. Mine is about 4' long. I built her in 1981

Titanic Carpeneter

Hi everyone. The goings good so far on the Re-Start :thumb: { post the pictures over the weekend}. Tim you asked for the scale and i'm not too sure about it exactly... but my old friend Phil {Gixergs} came up with about the same result as i did +/- two or three at approx 1:425th scale, i hope this helps. I know that there are alot of really enthusiastic Titanic folk out there, so please let me introduce to you all my wifes Great Grandfather Mr James Scott {and family}. James was one of the Carpenters who had the pleasure to work on the great ship, it is with him in mind that i am building the model of the Titanic and i will be putting his name on a brass plate in his memory. More model pictures at the weekend. Regards. Pete.

Titanic II The Sequel - Upscale Update.

As promised here are some more pictures of the build thus far. I had to put some extra Horizontal supports between the Formers to help prevent the Hull sides bowing in and to keep a true line across it's length { it did the job :thumb: } Anyway folks... i hope that you like what i've done so far. Regards. Pete.

Very nice but where's the lifeboat davits?

I don't think he is that advanced yet. For what it is worth I bet that even the railings that he has put on must have been quite a bear for him. So due to his level of workmanship I do give him complete accuracy and missing detail forgiveness. And something like that is very hard to get from me and I mean completely hard.

Any who. Keep advancing your self and I am very excited to see what works that you will come up with in the future.

Outstanding work on an excellent model and an intriguing story behind it Peter!:thumb:

I really like the colorful backdrop you added as well.

I read somewhere that there was an uncontrollable boiler fire that couldn't be extinguished en route, so it seems numerous gremlins were at work onboard the great - albeit flawed - ship.

Nice job Pete, she scaled up really well from quite a small kit. How's about taking a few steps back and giving us some pictures of the whole Beastie with the back drop for the full effect. I don't think she really needs the little robot dogs from Battlestar Galatica for the lifeboats, they were Davits weren't they?. Glad your feeling better SSsssssssoooooooo WHATS NEXT?

Thanks Pete

Excellent build Pete. Thanks for sharing it with us. I've been wanting to build this model myself and also thought about scaling it up. Seeing how well yours turned out I'll definitely be building this one.

Keep those builds coming...

Actually it was a coal bin fire. They were common in those days. Since coal is an organic product it heats up when exposed to pressure and moisture. Then couple that with the pressure of the shear tons of weight in those bins sometimes they would spontaneously combust, usually near the bottom of the pile. So they could often ignore them as they were considered more of a nusance than a saftey hazard. So the reports that it contributed to the sinking are grossly exaggerated in my opinion. That is not to say that when out of control they can't cause serious damage. Because they can when ignored or left un attended. They were very diffucult to extinguish. There is no evidence the fire ever reached that level of concern. Well that is my little bit of trivia for what it is worth.

The next Titanic

Many many thanks for all the kind remarks to my build of the magnificent TITANIC model by Ralph Currell. A comment was made about "the lack of detail and the Davits" thanks for that too because it as spurred me on to do something else  Titanic now goes BIGGER than ever and as much detail as you can wave a large stick at...:thumb: Watch this space and i hope to get the model the respect she deserves - I'm into Rockets but i do love this ship and the fact that my wifes Great Grandfather was a carpenter on her makes this a worth while project and i am trying my best to please. So off i go to get this mission on the way.
