...has arrived.

I've started him off right with my favorite railroad picture: William Henry Jackson's 1884 masterpiece of the newly completed Georgetown Loop. In the foreground is the DSP&P Office Car...a close relative to my pay car...and seemingly a frequent visitor to the Colorado Central.

I've also started a blog regarding my model railroading activities....

(Wil)Liam already has a wooden railway set in his toy box, a pair of Thomas the Tank Engine express coaches (which are nicer models than IHC's coaches), and will be learning to love the letters LGB.

PS: No, I'm not a hippy...I just have long hair.

Congratulations! He's got his mother's nose! :p :D

Seriously, that's terrific... mother looks like she did well, and is beautiful (as all new mothers are). Looking forward to the pic of his first time holding the throttle. ;)

Congrats to you and your wife NKP. If this is your first, have fun with the life changing exercise that is child rearing. It's a lot of work, but for all the work you will put into it, you will get tenfold in return.

Q: Is his birthday today?
I noticed you are from Cincinnati. I was born at good sam hospital in Cincinnnati exactly 33 years ago today!

And congrats - I am sure he will be spoiled with lots of railroad goodies!

Yes. Christ Hospital (our second choice was Good Sam which is a stone's throw from our house...if he was high risk, he'd have been born there instead!).

In that case, his birthday (today) comes with a nice pedigree for narrow gauge modeling! Happy Birthday!

Thank you all for the congratulations! He watched his first railroad movie (or really, any tv/movie/video) this afternoon...the Colorado & Southern narrow gauge from around 1938-1941.

I have a short list of museums that I absolutely have to take him to see:
-the California Railroad Museum
-The National Railway Museum (York, England)
-the B&O Railroad Museum
-Colorado Railroad Muesum

The B&O museum is probably the best collection of old steam:

CA: http://csrmf.org/default.asp
NRM: http://www.nrm.org.uk/collections/locomotives.asp
CRRM: www.crrm.org

I'd also like to take him to Henry Ford's Museum, St. Louis, PA Museum, Green Bay, Mid-Continent, either Vienna's, Luzern's, or Bavaria's and a few others.

Tourist railroads & non-museums, I'd like to take him to:
#1 The Cumbras & Toltec
#2 The Durango & Silverton
#3 Alpine Tunnel
#4 The Glacier Express: Loop & Landwasser
#5 The Golden Pass
#6 Severn Valley, Bluebell, or North Yorkshire Moors
#7 The Georgetown Loop
and may more!

That's quite the list. Don't forget the Union Train Museum in IL.
Enjoy fatherhood. The birth of all of my kids changed me, and my life would be empty without them.
