Athearn did a really nice job with this model...lots of intricate features and a very smooth running motor. (I might have to add the Montana Railink FP45 to the fleet too...) Here's a shot near the hill by the yard on a very unfinished layout that will soon see some work.

Christmas came early today at my house.

Just recieved from our good friend Doctor Wayne, Grand Valley #45 and caboose (or is it a van?? ) #373.

I sure wish I had one of those slick photo dioramas like a lot of you guys to have photo'd these models on, but I am working on one right now, ironicaly enough, with a Gern Industries store on it. It's an old feed store structure, working on the scenery now on it and that will eventually become a small scene on my new layout.

Until then, the coffee table will have to suffice...

(By the way, photos don't do Doc's models justice, you'd have to see one of these in person to trully appreciate it!) Now they are safely on display in one of my glass train cabinets (sure stands out amongst Armour Yellow UP and Perlman Green and Orange WP power). As soon as I can get the layout set back up, these guys will get out every once in a while and when the new layout gets built, I might just have to add a new shortline on part of it...

Wow! That paint scheme is CLASSY! VERY nice selection of colors.

(Silver trucks & Underframes make ANY scheme classy in my opinion)

Remember...it's for fun!
Nice pics everyone! You know I like that early AMTRAK Chessie...and Rusty your scrap yard looks great! A little bit of scrap shows in this picture of an area of my layout I'm reworking. The large building is another rough draft. I'm still messing with the whole concept.

Another scrappy picture

Thanks for the compliment. It means a lot as there is such fine modeling going on in the photos shared here.

Just getting this corner of the layout finished - still have some excavators on the way for cutting, sorting and loading. I have a few more scrap piles waiting to dry and the final shrubbery, etc.

It's modeled after a local yard that scraps old railroad cars. It's always a treat to see what's being recycled. They rip them apart, salvage the good parts, cut the rest into chunks with torches, run them over with bulldozers and load them into gondolas.

The truckless gondola in the foreground is a holding bin for sorted scrap ready to be loaded onto rail cars.

I'm struggling with focus issues. I'm using small aperature openings (22 up to 36 with a 30 second shutter speed) and I've tried 18 to 55mm "zoom" from close up and far back and I can't get a good depth of field. Any hints? I'm using a Canon digital rebel xt. My goal is to get clear focus on Scrappy, the guy in the middle. I've tried card stock with an "X" at his depth and I've tried bracketing the focus from close up to far back and I can't get him in focus. Help!
