Keep It Moving!
Well, I haven't posted in a weekly thread in a while, but most of you know i've been saying I was going to do this for YEARS!wall1

And now I have! Presenting now for the first time, a portion of my layout....

UNDER THE WIRE!

Ralph, When is Penn Central going to fix these leaning Catenary poles?sign1 Yeah, i still haven't repainted this unit yet. I plan to soon, but don't worry, PC 4977 (the last EP5/E40) seems to be in my future.... It will be my resident PC unit. It made it's last stand in the region of NJ i model, so it should be good to see when i get it.

Also, I have the three new New Jersey Transit and one Conrail models!

first, my Single Arrow III EMU. I have a Married pair kit i need to build still (basically two cars share a pantograph and electrical equipment). Hopefully i'll find a PDT that matched these cars, and i'll add interior lighting/passenger. I might use fiber optics for headlights and markers a DCC decoder will probably fit well in the "A" end of the car (the end with the Pantographs and electrical equipment), so nothing should be visiable. Its awesome.

I also have an ALP46 I'm slowly putting together. I just painted it and added pantographs now. some of the lines are rough, but they will get covered by decal stripes. I'm just worried about the finish, but i can fix that...

as well as a PL42AC! AS with the ALP46, most places where the paint is rough is covered by decal stripes. Shouldn't be any issues! The shell also came with brass radiator fans, as well as brass grills and vents i need to install.

I'm working on getting Decal sheets for the ALP46 and PL42AC. the PL42AC has a frame and drive coming in about three weeks, but i'm still working on getting the frame for

Finally my new SD60I

how about F units as the secondary theme this week .

Ok,here's mine 1/3 of a set to power the GVR's office train.

The power will be a pair of ATLAS FP7s flanking an Athearn F7B.No decision on paint scheme yet.

Well, since we are on the theme of "F" Units...

Gail McClure, Director, Feather River Rail Society took what I think to be one of the neatest pics I have seen in a long time. This was UP's "Mini-Train" engine on one of our museum flatcars getting tied down before we took it with our train to Dunsmuir, CA last year. We call this pic "F-Unit and Cub". The other unit is Western Pacific 805-A, the last WP California Zephyr locomotive left. I spent the better part of Saturday cutting vinyl lettering on my vinyl cutter to re-letter her this weekend in her as delivered Zephyr Gothic style "Western Pacific" lettering as well as the "805-A" that goes on the lower end corner.

Got my Digitrax system yesterday and I'm busy putting it through it's paces. I've already readdressed some of my locos and reconfigured the headlight on my Athearn F7 A-B set. Now it's a gyralight in forward and a steady light in reverse. I've also reset the starting voltage on one of my Atlas GP40's. It has a cannabilized decoder from a Bachmann DCC OnBoard GP40. I may get time today to install more decoders. I have a pile of DZ125's here that are in search of locos.

Mr Cab I love your work. The overhead wires are fantastic. There are a couple of guys in my area who have done them and you guys amaze me. One fellow uses wieghts to keep his wires tight he claims it is prototipical. How do you keep them tight?

Thank you!

Actually, right now, they aren't very tight. It is only one segment, and as you can see, the one catenary support was leaning. I've straightened it out, but nothing is solidly mounted until i get A few more bridges/crosspans done, just so that if i need to make any changes, its not all hard mounted. In fact, that spot right there requires a wire over the crossovers, so i'm going to have to figure out how and where to apply additional wires.

I think though, that i will keep my wires tight just by soldering them to each support. Later on, i'll add the actual "up/down" curved wire, and I figure that will work much like a suspension bridge. my catenary poles will also need to be hard anchored into the benchwork once i get the next segments up.

After servicing and fueling and a good washing with hot steam and solvent 3877 is being turned in order to pick up her train.
