Good morning folks

It was a nice 68 F on the way in this morning. High today will be 87 F with the possibility of thunder storms this evening.

No modeling last night. I was at my son’s football practice. Since this is the beginning I like to be there the full practice since the coaches may give us information. Also I like to see how he is doing at first.

Now I am off to a big whine session at work aka a status meeting. Now I get to listen to people make excuses as to why they can’t meet the deadlines that previously set in the last status meeting.

RI Rocket we will keep you in our prayers.

I hope everybody has a good day.
Yeah - it's the same in all areas of construction... Finger pointing is a real art :D :D

Morning all. Cloudy and grey after last nights storms. The worst missed our particular town. I like that Douglas Adams quote. It sure is the truth.

Here's something out-of-the-ordinary - I'm studying how to fly an airship for an article.

G' morning all.....Speaking of comstruction & deadlines....Did any of you see a program called "LA Hardhats" on NatGeo Sunday night..?? If not...keep an eye out for it...It's a great look into the trials & tribulations of crews building high-rises in the LA area....

RI Rocket...Keep your spirits up...A positive attitude goes a long way in helping to jump this hurdle...And we're all here to lend a hand...

Been bust here today. My father and I have been up since early this morning tying down anything that couldn't be moved indoors. We moved my mother's small potted plants inside, the bigger one's will have to weather the storm. We're watching as the storm bands dray closer and hoping we don't get too much in the way of wind.

Storms are rolling in here right now, so I just switched to battery - lightning and thunder! Prayers for Ozzy/Rusty/RIR for the best possible care and good results. Hope all are well - might be back online later....

Slept late [9 AM EDT]. Got on phone to find land for HS in Rolesville [not Raleigh]. Then out to pick garden [while taking turns with dogs being out]. Found out Board of Education met at 3 PM instead of 4. Rushed to shower and dress. Made it. Back at 5:15 to change into sport pants and shirt for a PD thing for residents. Target sponsored it. Hot dogs and drinks free for all. Finger printed kids for ID and safety sake. Came home at 8:15 [was suppose to be over a 7]. Fed birds, deer and fish. No time to rest and drink Coke Zero and eat popcorn.

Good night all.

Morning all. Sunny here. I guess much of the area is still cleaning up from Monday's storms - I know our systems were off-line much of the day because of power issues at another campus.

N-gauger, I have been tasked to write an article reviewing some recent activity in semi-rigid airship design and development, including some simulations. I'm trying to wrap my brain around concepts like static and dynamic lift. It is interesting to see how one doesn't fly these so much as guide them through their environment...

Wow!! Yeah - Flight dynamics can be a bit difficult.. :( Never dabbled except basic lift/load/drag concept.. :)

Really interesting thing about "Guiding" them - That's true with almost all powered aircraft, except jet military craft. Even the huge passenger aircraft have a physics of their own.

They are steered within reason by the Pilot... and the parameters are precise, the envelope small.... Otherwise it's a recipe for disaster.

This is very true with spacecraft. The Pilots are merely suggesting to the computer what maneuver has to be performed... the computer analyzes it and performs it.

The ship itself is in most cases barely turning on one of the 3 axis to change direction or dock... or land. So the human is "nudging" using thrusters.. a minor change "here" makes a Huge difference "There"...

When I used to fly R/C helicopters, I was taught to imagine the bottom of a V (or a cone). Whatever you do at the bottom, will steer you somewhere within the area of the "top" of the V, so you really have to think about how much "nudging" you want to do :) :)

The top of the V can be "miles" or "thousands of miles" wide.....:eek:

Good morning folks

It is 81 F currently. High today will be 90 F. We had a storm roll through right around daybreak.

I did not go into work today. My foot kept me up most of the night and the medication played havoc with my stomach this morning. I am feeling much better now that the medication has kicked in.

I set up a train and ran it a little last night. I need to do some track cleaning. I just got word that the last LHS I trust is closing; (Mikey I hope you are sitting down) Mitchell’s in Wilmington, DE. It is a family run business and the three siblings running have decided to close after 50+ years. One of their children is going to open a toy store and the manager of the model railroad department will be opening a hobby shop.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Howdy all, not a busy day for me. Its 85 so I've spent most of it indoors. Finished repairing two marx pieces a bell and a light tower, needed some wire work. I will take them to a show in the fall. Maybe they will sell, I try to ask fair prices. Otherwise all is well. TTFN...S.J.

Hi, all.

11.30pm here, raining hard, with thunder and lightning - the dog hates it!

I was making a couple of buildings for my layout, but I've come to the computer mainly to keep the dog company - he's hiding under the table.
When he was a tiny pup, he went outside in the sunshine, and just at that moment the skies opened with heavy hailstones, thunder and lightning - literally right out of the blue. Ever since then he doesn't trust our British weather!

Now that I'm a bit more organised, I'm itching to get some base-board work done. Only one problem. Money! The complete lack of it, that is. I don't want to do a rush job with bits and pieces of timber. The baseboard is the single most-vital-to-get-right part of a model railroad - so I'll wait and buy everything to match properly.

I've organised space, now I need to organise my hours! Once I do that, I'll post a layout build thread.

Catch you all later,
have a great day.
