New Desktop Layout

Here is the left circle, I think it turned out the best, which figures because it will face away from me and I won't ever see it:
Sounds like maybe you need to think about putting a low mirror behind the layout so you can see the back side of it while you sit and work. Make it low enough so that you can not see yourself but just tall enough to come up as high as the bottom of the monitors.

I finally finished painting the rocks and I painted the lakes and covered them with polyurethane, which wasn't the best idea as in seeped into the walls, but it is ok as the monitors will be sitting there and won't be visible. Here is the right circle:

Here is the left:

Lastly, when I got home from my bike ride from work, sitting on my doorstep was my new DCC equipment, I decided to test it out on the new layout, even though DCC is WAY OVERKILL for this layout. Thanks fifer for getting it here so quickly!

The lakes are looking great Scott.:thumb: I am thinking a swim in one of them would be nice today with as hot as it's been.

I like the idea of the mirror behind the monitors. Can't wait to see it in person and try out your new dcc.

Thanks guys!

Well, I have started to add some grass and dirt, unfortunately I ran out of grass. Here is what I have done so far:

These pictures were taken with my cell phone, so sorry about the quality:

Above the left tunnel, I put down dirt and some scrubs and weeds, I love that the dirt is almost the same color as the paint.

Off to the LHS tomorrow, usually the one thing they do have is Woodland Scenics scenery stuff, so hopefully will be able to get blended turf-green tomorrow.

Lookin' good Scott! They must get a lot of rainfall in that part of the country with the grass that thick and the beautiful twin lakes.

Yes, I have to dream about green grass and water here in St. George, so I make my layout fit the bill.sign1

Oh and sorry I bought the last bag of turf at the lhs. hamrJust kidding. Can't wait to see the layout complete.

I wish you were the person who bought the bag, so I could borrow it, because now the layout is on hold as THEY ARE OUT! (and as you know they never restock anything) I hate how they never have anything in stock that I want, plus the train section is now even smaller, they took the one half of the half isle they had for trains and filled it with more plane stuff. I thought they were supposed to be getting better with trains.

Well, I guess I can ballast the track were I put down the scenery.

Looks great so far Jesso. Hey, is there a hobby lobby close to you. They usual have woodland scenics stuff (my LHS has a ton of that stuff as well as hobby lobby).

Looking good there. I am always amazed [and inspired, but don't tell no one:p] by what you "little" guys can do ;) LOL.
Keep up the good work there. :)

Hey, is there a hobby lobby close to you.

I had never heard of them, so I looked them up, wow, they are all over the place. Unfortunately, the closest one to me is South Jordan, which is about 4 hours from here. There is a good hobby shop in Orem (about three hours away) and I have heard there are hobby shops in Las Vegas (about 2 1/2 hours away), I have never been to the one's in Vegas.

I can't believe that I am going to either have to travel somewhere or pay shipping for blended turf. I'll probably send an email up to the Orem store, wonder how much they would charge to ship it down here.

If you can sort of bunch up items you can't find elsewhere N Scale Supply uses flat rate shipping (I think like 6 or 7 dollars one more when you order rails or roadbed that needs the big box) and they have tons of items. I've been pleased with them in the past and am working up enough items to merit another order.

Hey Scott. With the price of gas here many customers are asking the store owners to mail parts to them. It is cheaper then the gas used to get to the store and the price of parking etc.
Anyhow, I think you will find mail is cheaper for many things. Also for turf, why not just go out to a local park and see what the ground has to offer?:D LOL. I did that for my trees etc.
I hope that helps. :)

I went over to Mooreway's house and picked up the buildings and here they are on the layout:

I think they are going to be great!

Soooo, has the hobby shop had a chance to replenish it's stock after you wiped him all out of blended green turf? Probably not hmmm. I think you need to open up your own hobby shop. Maybe start out of your garage at first. With your connections, you could make a go of it!:thumb:

Aren't those buildings sitting in the middle of that Alpine lake? Now I'm going to have to go back and look at your layout pictures to figure out where you could put them at.

Ahhh, I see... probably on the flats in front of the lake right?
