Too many projects so little time.

Btw should I remove all the tabs from the model?

I hear ya bout no time :p

No, the tabs are fine. I just ommited the ones I felt were un-needed based on my building style. I never use em on cylinder like parts such as the intakes, hip joints, head knob, and gun barrel. I also tend to ignore them where there are a lot of bends in a part and too many tabs would interfere with each other. I also don't like tabs on really small parts. I just glue the edges together as tabs can distort small parts.

I saw leave the tabs and let the builders choose what ones they want to leave or remove :)

Very nice build! Hopefully my build of the same model will be finished tonight before bed. I share your sentiments on the edges of the wings, tricky but well worth it. The tabs on the tailfins actually gave the part more volume IMO, but like you said, it all depends on your building style.

Regarding your opinion on tabs in general: EEP!
All I can say is have fun trimming them off the SDF-1! there's a lot! I'll note that in future designs tho!

Congratulations once again on a very beautiful model. Great job!
And Thanx to Janx for designing it! :thumb:

I just finished building it last night (started on Saturday). Its a great looking model but I would do a few things differently. The white blocks on the legs for example; combine all the links for the sides of them instead of making each link seperate, then you can just wrap it around to glue to itself, and just "close" the top and bottom parts. I would also suggest that you keep all the tabs of pieces on the same sides as each other, instead of making them itermittent, that way they can be assembled more like boxes. The last thing I would suggest is markings for where parts attach (like where the top of the leg attaches to the back of the intake). Otherwise, its a great model.

Alpha in Robot mode

Awesome model Janx! I'm working on modding this into robot mode.
Here is a pic of what I've built so far. It's about 90 percent.still needs some work on the arms and the shoulder mounted missile.

Wow ... thats quite good from what I can see. My take on these are that it's best that the model not need to transform. The different configurations would be better off as individual models.

That and it keeps the designers sanity in tact.

Absolutely great mod! saves me a lot of work, hopefully you can post the modded version here for the good guys here to enjoy too :) If you need extended mag for the gun let me know.

I have completely retextured this model and have all 3 version heads done but have so many projects and real life things on the go that I don't have the time to unwrap the model in pep. (also a gerwalk on the go too, though I can probably shelve that with this superb mod)

Thanks Cyb.

Getter- Great build up. Your model is very clean looking and set the bar for me for neatness on this one. I also relied on this thread heavily for reference.

Janx- Hopefully over the weekend I'll finish the final draft sheet of the parts I used to make it.
I'm not good yet at the 3d computer software, but I have a background in drafting.
I made the additional parts the long hand way. They still need to be tweaked and colored. Then it's just a matter of scanning and uploading.

I have an Invid trooper in the works. I didn't design the original mesh, so I'm not sure I feel right about sharing that one. However, I am using it for a reference for one of my own design. That I can post when I'm closer to completion.

I'm also working on a possible VF-0 with reaction armor. Just started working on it last night.

I would also like to formally thank Thunderchild for the inspiration. I found this site while looking for a model of the SDF-1. After chatting with him a couple of times and following his projects, I realized that although it's fun to build other peoples models, I'm in a good position to design my own and contribute something in return.

Thanks to Cybrsqrl and Getter1 I have got the bug to do the Alpha/Legioss again, they made me realise I left too much undone with the model.

I have posted in the Macross/Robotech thread about taking this model up again but realise It would take too much space in Thunder's ongoing thread.

So taking up where I left off...

After a few more days modding the model and adding a few bits, this is the state of the AFC 01 atm.

Almost done with the modelling, just a few joints to add and the Green texture to go.

Thought I'd get around to this sooner. See my reply in the macross thread for why I've been so busy. Here is the draft I did of the parts I used to complete the alpha in robot mode. All the other parts were modified on the fly from the original alpha kit. feel free to do with this anything you want. Don't know when things are going to settle down around here.

Janx, you are my hero! The Alpha is one of the best designs from Mospeada/Robotech. I've only been following the thread here for the past week or so, amazing! I tried the link posted on page two for the model but it doesn't work. Or is it not available yet? If it is I would SOOOO love to have it!

Hi Itla, just checked the thread and the download is still working. Search for either posts by Fruiz or "I need help to find this model" the model is on the bottom of page 1.

I still have the actual plastic Alpha I bought back in 1986, and this model almost as good. I haven't let my son play with it, but if I build him this one...
