My dad told me about this. He learned about it from a friend whom delivered a full size, wooden mock up of a set of NYC 4-6-4's drivers.

It will feature a 20,000+ sq ft large scale layout. It's a $10,000,000 deal.

I think it will have layouts in all scales, but the large scale layout is the centerpiece. I don't know if they even intend to get their money back. Who knows? (After all, most baseball team owners lose money on their teams...hobbies are something you just need to be able to afford).

Mauybe it's just me, but $10 million bucks worth of model railroads seems just a tad more than a "hobby" - kind of like describing the TITANIC as a recreational pleaasurecraft.

I would tend to agree, but I do think it is relative.

Back in the '80s, a lawyer in Denver looked into rebuilding the South Park's high line from Como to Breckenridge via Boreas Pass. He had a study performed; he purchased a rotary snow plow and several pieces of rolling stock. His plan was to haul skiers into Breckenridge.

The big problem was the same as it was when the line was closed. Boreas Pass spends several months out of the year buried in snow...and some of those months fall during ski season.

Several tens of millions was hobby money for him...for it was far from an investment...I tend to think Entertainment Junction is something similar. (I'd love to know how many lawyers would consider tens of millions to be chunk change...probably very few)
