My grandfather used to hop the train in his backyard as a kid (about 5, the youngest in a family of 7) into the city and borrow a nickle to go to the theatre (silent films of course).

After giving it some though I guess my real problem with "bo's" comes down to respect. It seems to me that they don't respect other peoples property. They prove that daily by tresspassing on rail road property and trains, camp on other peoples property without asking and so on.

As far as the poem posted if the bo's were building and serving they would be working steady jobs and not be hobos. I watched several major construction projects in our area over the last few years. I saw hard working men and women who were paying taxes and going home at night.

I don't like people who lean on cars that don't belong to them too. Show no respect and get no respect!

Hobo is a nice name for a homeless person and thats what they are for the most part. Homeless people who use the rail roads to get around.

Kids that jump trains to get to town or on a lark are not really hobos, just kids screwing around.

But here is somthing to think about also bo's are not homeless for the most part most had a home that they would returne to for a while then get the wanderlust and go traveling again some are but not all.
Look at it this way have you ever gone on vacation what if you lost your wallet and didnt have money to get back home would you take your car to the local Walmart were it is in fact a welcome haven to anybody needing to park for the night in motor homes {some being rubber tire Hobos mind you } and park there to go find a odd job to get the gas money to get back home???
Same with Bo's they would go for a vacation to just wander around and see the Country but did work were they could so they wouldnt have to STEAL to survive !!

See
The Hobo wanders and works

The tramps wander and wont work

The Bums wont wander or work

The Tramps and Yeggs {thieves} were hated in the Bo jungels still are today they were told to go make camp somwhere else so if they had gone into town and were seen stealing somthing the Locals wouldnt track them to the Bo jungel.
Evin today you go to any Hobo gathering and get caught in the Jungel or in town at all period stealing or acting a fool you will be turned over to the cops and or hauled out of town by whatever means available by the Bo's to get rid of you !!:thumb:

How does this old thread keep popping up again when the last post before this one was made on 03/09/07? I know there's newer stuff in here than that and yet, here it comes again.....

Remember...it's for fun!
Every time some one votes on the poll whether or not they post a reply causes the thread to bump up. :)

I have to confess, it was me who started this back up, and every time I see that someone else votes it just cracks me up.

I keep on thinking "now look what you started".

In passing - hobos these days often have cameras and camera phones. They are leaving on the web a legacy of photos of rare, redundant and derelict stock and locations which hobbyists and industrial archaeologists will thank them for in years to come.

So, in my book, the jobsworths (company men) who block these people are helping to bury our history.

Yes, someone said something bad about being homeless. I said above I crossed
Canada to the west and back again. At no time did I have a home, was homeless. I moved on to be a respected person to my friends and Club mates.
Just because you don't understand someones drive you can't knock it. And about this property crap well big business walk all over the rules on me and the rest of us daily, no ones complaining about them.

Honestly, I cannot vote. REAL Hobo's are ok, but there's so many bums, migratory workers, and others mixed in that give the REAL hobo's a bad name...

They all start somewhere. Give em time and I think all those you describe are one in the same, or move on.

Pretty much, but there are a number of Hobo's, (I've only met one in my life), that are very honest, don't damage the trains, just use them for a free transportation device. My vote edges towards the worse, but there are honest people.
