HO Steamboat - first submission

I want one! Add me to the list of folks to receive a set of plans. Murdock's Landing needs one of these. That wheelhouse and stern cover are just exuding character. Fantastic!

Galen's brings prompted something I'd never thought of before. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to create forum, perhaps in the reference section for the posting of plans? Obviously, copyrighted plans would be a no-no, but plans for all sorts of structures, rolling stock, bridges, etc. would then be a click away for those scratch builders wanting to build or bash something. It seems to me the plans could be done at whatever size fits the picture criteria for this forum. Include some sort of legend with the plans that would allow a plan printed to any size to be scaled up accordingly, perhaps a legend equaling 10 feet (1 foot might not be visible in smaller scales). That way when it is printed out, it would be easy to figure out how much it would need to be enlarged or shrunk to fit the scale you are working in. We could then print the plans and take them to our local Kinkos to have them resized to the correct scale.

Is this a workable suggestion, or are there difficulties that I'm not aware of?

Roughneck,
Welcome aboard!
Best guess, she's about 30' long. Very nicely done! That's one sweet "introduction" to the gauge. I too, can't wait to see her painted, and "populated". Also, post the lobster boats as soon as you can.

You are right on the length. I think the real boats were longer but this is a shortened version. I have a friend in Cali who built a longer version and I like that as well, some time in the future I plan to build a longer version too. Progress ont he lobster boats has stopped because of a trip to the Combres & Toltec and the Durango & Silverton. I always wanted to visit even though I model the Maine two-footers or/and a variation of them. Some time in July I will post some construction photos of the Lobster boats.

Steamboat Scan

A small jpg of the plans I worked from, with a ten foot HO scale line at the bottom to help convert to a different scale.

Thank you, Roughneck.:thumb::thumb:

Together with your excellent build pix, it would be fairly easy to build a similar model from these lines.

I just opened the jpg, and printed it to see how it would scale out. It came out slightly larger than ho scale with the 10 foot legend measuring 1 3/4 inches. If the model you built was a 30 foot boat, a model built to the same size as the enlarged jpg would scale out somewhere between 36 and 42 feet in length. I think this sketch is the first example of what I was talking about with my proposal for a "Plans & Blueprints" forum. It isn't a full on architectural blueprint, but there is enough information there combined with the pictures of the finished model to enable anyone to figure out how to build a similar model.
