Nice pic, Jeffrey - love that KCS. Well, scout trip was off, son decided at last minute he didn't want to go. We still had to pay them, though, since they bought supplies for him. Wife and mother-in-law are gearing up for a big paint job on the kids' rooms. I'm tasked to make some shelves for the bedrooms, so will get to play with mitersaw and router! I learned that the boy scout troop is not living up to expectations. The adult leaders are letting the older boys pick on the younger boys and call them inappropriate names, push them around, etc. I sent an email to the guy I knew from cub scouts and asked him to look into this. Wifey thinks my son wants to quit, but I don't know if that is the answer. I remember I loved boy scouts, but people are all different of course. Lots of work to do today since we are home, but I also want to do something with my boy to have some dad/son time.... Will have to think about it a little more. No rain today! Will rain tomorrow afternoon, so have to get all yard work caught up before then though! Hmmm - I wonder if my son would like to run a chainsaw? AR-AR-AR-AR!

Brutus:

never mind the chainsaw, why not teach your son - and the other scouts - how to make a whipstaff lathe - they'll thank you when the oil runs out.

You can start with a treadle lathe, but it's not essential:
Treadle Power
(Boyslathe.pdf)

Take a rope from a whippy branch or sapling and attach to the back of the treadle.

The simplest whipstaff lathe takes a few turns of rope around the workpiece - there's no flywheel - just a rope from a basic treadle to a branch.

...............

I never did introduce myself properly:
I'm in my 60's, with wide interests: linguistics, computing and web security, trains, plastic modelling, trains, paper modelling, trains, industrial archaeology, trains, humor ...

Here in the UK, we mostly model 00 scale, just to be controversial, but at least it runs on H0 track and wheels, so I hope that's acceptable to you guys.

Thanks Brutus.

:wave:Jeffery how did you get those containers in the back ground? did you make them yourself??? they look pretty cool:wave:
Yes. They're made of card-stock. I downloaded the designs for them from a German website: IGS Hansa -Tips und Tricks-
I had to play with the print settings some to get them to exact scale. I used a plastic HO Scale container for a size comparison. To lock in the ink colors on them so they don't fade I spray them with Testor's inkjet decal sealer spray. You can fine it at Hobby Lobby.

Good evening all,

Chief, That fast groundhog sounds like a northern groundhog, I'll bet Buckeye sent him down your way.

logicman, :welcome1: to the coffee pot, great to have another Brit on board. But I have to remind you that humor is not allowed, everything is very serious on the coffee pot.

Dennis, Yes the New Jersey is open to the public and it is a great tour, did it a couple of years ago. From the Philadelphia side you can ride a ferry over to take the tour. Not sure if that runs year round, but it does in the summer.

A local club had their monthly open house today. I stopped in and got acquainted with a few of the guys, one I knew but hadn't run into him for some time. All very friendly, they took my info an said they would send a membership application. Think I will join. They have N, 2 HO layouts, O 3-rail, an O 2-rail trolley w/ live overhead wire, std. guage and are working on a G gauge display around the one room at door top height. The O 3-rail is the largest layout I would guess is is about 60' long on one leg of an L and about 40' the other leg. All Atlas track.

On the foam board question, since I wanted to get started, I took a chance on what I had and it seams to be working. Used some Weldbond, which is a sort of highpowered carpenters glue. Now to do some carving and then I think I will cover it with plaster cloth to give it a firm surface.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I've been out working at my parents place today. First, cut the grass. Second, help remove the pool cover. Third, get the pump/filter set up so the pool could be vacuumed. Fourth, help get rid of the vines and weeds that were taking over the fence and breeze wall. Lunch was at Burger King. I had a Steak House burger. Dinner was at Dairy Queen. I had a large Steak Finger basket with onion rings. That pretty much took up most of the day. I'm gonna sleep good tonight.

Mowed, trimmed, helped mother-in-law who was refinishing a bed frame, got skunked looking for some straight boards at Lowes - worn out! No trains, but I did get to walk by my tiny layout a few times.

Good morning.

It's 59 this morning and partly cloudy. Expecting a high in the mid 80's this afternoon and still partly cloudy.

I stepped outside earlier and almost jumped out of my skin. There was a snake coiled up right beside the step! It's a harmless type so I left it alone. The only harm a Coachwhip can do to you is to make you hurt yourself. They generally get up to four to five feet long. The record is eight and a half feet! Their primary diet is rodents and small birds, both of which are greatly abundant here. This type of snake is very, very fast. In the time it took me to get my camera (between six and ten seconds) it was gone.

John - This sounds like a great place. So how much is membership and do they also let you run your trains on thier layout?

The Western Reserve Model Railroad Museum has 3 O gauge layouts.

One is the Tin plate which is 8 by 12 foot, modeled as if built in 1955.

Our Hi-rail, which is still under constrution, is a very large 'E' shape, 66 foot by 25 foot, with 3 main lines

LOL, glad you knew what kind of snake, but that's pretty funny Jeffrey! I accidentally mowed a garden snake yesterday, but we have had a cotton mouth in the back yard before - not good! Nice pic! Gotta go, wife has jobs for me today. TTFN

Good morning all.

Jeffery I downloaded all the containers last night great find even if the instructions are in germansign1 I will resize them to S and maybe O scale. Have you heard of model builder? It is a software program that lets you design and print out buildings in any scale you want, and you can even import your own graphics as well.

Afternoon all. Early Church and SS. Then came home went to pond. Put a bag of pond fertilizer in the edge and fertilized the grass on the "fishing bank". Why? Who knows. So I can cut it more often with weedeater. Going to put some fertilizer on front yard. So I can mow it more often I guess. Got wedding to attend this afternoon I guess.
Now for the biggie;
Don Baker just called. Chris won tickets to some all day concert. Took his girl and they went. Had "right there" seats. Came home last night around midnight. Complaining of severe chest pains. took him to ER. Has colapsed lung. Went to OR and put tube in the evacuate air in chest cavity. He is in ICU but doing good. Lung has already got 50% capacity. He will recover. Don is working two shows yesterday and now off to finish one today. Wife is with Chris. On top of that, his internet is messing up. Prayers for the whole crew.
Later.
