I have thought about the free model comp and decided to give it a go.

I am going to build skips bumblebee camero concept, as a beta build and a comp entry. I've not entered any of the comps before, so this is new for me.

On with the model. I have printed nearly all the sheets with glossy photo paper, looks amazing. The floor of the car I have printed on card, because I ran out of glossy paper and it's not really seen anyway.

The only problem I had with printing was my fault. I bought some clear acetate a while ago, so I tried to print the window sheet on that. Silly idiot me had bought mono photo copy paper. I printed the sheet out last night and it didn't dry, checked it today when I got home from work and it's still wet. So I will have to buy some proper acetate for inkjets.

First photo is just the printed sheets. Going to start the build this evening.

The clear sheets I have are just that, clear. But the ink won't dry.

I've posted a photo of one the transparent sheets I printed off. The grading on the 'glass' looks good until the print gets to the top part. And none of it is dry.

Any ideas?

have you thought of printing the sheet on 80sq/gm paper then spray mount to one of those sheets pin to a cutting board then cut out? i do that with most of my builds of aircraft with canopy parts :thumb:

im still thinking about what im going to do. the inkjet transparencies make anything behind them blurry. so ive never been happy with the results. the way i see it i either forego the window tint or use the injet trannsparencies and have the door windows open.

paulhbell im really looking forward to seeing this beast done. im building at 1/2 the intended size and it is still a big model!

To be able to print on a clear sheet you need to buy special sheets with a "rough" side, otherwise the ink will not dry... they are used for projector slides

Col kurtz, the window parts are shaded form the top to the bottom. Black at the top shading down to nearly clear at the bottom. So cutting out the frames and gluing to the clear won't work.

Thanks nothing.

Thanks for the tip perry, But the sheets I have are for OHPs and are smooth on both sides.

Are you sure you bought the correct ones? Because there are two different types. One is for dry erase markers, and the other is a printable type for your printer. I found them both at Stapels office supplies. You may have to go with clear windows. Or could try dying the clear plastic window template with rite dye. Thats how some of the aircraft builders get their transparant color canopys. I read it on some R/C forum. At least you would then have tinted windows.

First build photo.

Fisrt build pic.

Using parts from,

Sheet A, parts 1 and 2
Sheet B parts 1,2 and 3
Sheet C part 2.

No problems, due to excellent design. The 'join' lines that appear to be white are not on the model, I think it's the glossy paper reflecting the camera flash, plus, I'm working under halogen spot lamps.

Tip for making this section, don't use glossy paper for the floor, when have you seen a glossy carpet.

Second photo is the back of the clear acetate that I bought. I bought the mono photo-copier one. From the photo they do make a pack for inkjet printers. Can't do anything tonight, so off to the print shop tomorrow.

Laser printers are what you need for transparencies.

You can't really use Inkjets for transparencies.

Hey Paul, looking great so far buddy. :)

I'm sorry to hear of the transparency troubles. :( I've always got mine printed at a printers so I didn't think of that as a problem. Sorry buddy.

Good luck for the comp buddy. It's going to be great at see two of these models come together at the same time! Thanks guys! ;)

More.

I thought I better start posting more photos of the build. Instead of just posting each days build, I will post a photo of each part that I add to the model.

So, first photo: rear seats finished, page A, part 1.

Second photo: rear side wall, page C, part 4.

Third photo: front passenger side (USA), how it go's together.

More to come in a bit.

I know I keep banging on about how good the textures are, but WOW. Nice job skip.

Skip, if you want these pics I can email them to you, or just drag them off the forum.

Lookin' Good Paul! Thanks buddy.

I have instructions for the whole interior done already. I think because of the time difference, nothing got the jump on you. So far no problems on his end so so far so good. :)

Good to see them coming together! :D

He really builds fast, I didn't expect to beat him. I like the idea of building the car at two scales though.

I should make up a good bit of time on the car on Sunday, thats when I do most of my building.

BTW, the white spots in the photo's are dust (just noticed them). There is nothing wrong with the print's.
