If it involves defacing the property of others, it isn't art - it's vandalism. As proof, offer to go by a tagger's house and decorate to your satisfaction.

While a train is going by - reading the graffiti helps pass the time, but as is said in the article it costs money (Profits) to clean it off the cars....
And you know they have to pass those costs on to their customers..

Agreed. Any time you deface private property, you are breaking the law. Your point is well taken. It's funny, but people never see the harm until it happens to them. It's supposed to be OK because it's owned by a company?
Either that or it's "ok" because other people are doing it.. Kind of like exceeding the speed limit.... :cry::cry::cry:

I may add graffiti to my cars, but not because I like it (though I have seen some quite impressive work), but because it is real, something that actually does happen with the railroads

Here's a better idea: We've all seen the modeling mag articles about placing little humorous vignettes in layouts, right? Place a tagger, can of spray paint clutched firmly in hand, being run down by a graffiti-tagged boxcar.

Exactly. These taggers should stick to their own property. Where I work, we had a few tags. Management cleaned it off very quickly but it was quite costly.
Another thing about tagging. I find that in the case of buildings, when the taggers visit, it's just a matter of time before the other vandals come and then eventually the arsonists.
Here is an idea - we have the tagger select what he regards as his best work, size it properly and tattoo him with it over his entire body. A man should be willing to be fully identified with his work.
The builders of Egyptian tombs, "tagged" their work, and we are just recently discovering it.

That would be called "white lining" and that's part of the job, no different than me red tagging an old AC unit.

If they did it without permission from the owners of the cars... then it is.
It would be like me taking a sledge hammer to my car and smashing in the windshield. I own the car and can do what I please with it. However, if I did that to someone else's car and they didn't give me permission, then that's vandalism.
