Is this the part where everybody takes a long, warm shower together? sign1

I think this is exactly what the PM function was designed for. :thumb:
We might hold hands and sing, "Kumbayah", even toast a marshmallow or two, but the shower thing is definitely out:flush1:

No hard feelings, glad you guys knew I was joking. For the record, I think this is a great forum, and I don't even have an ignore list!!

Alright now, everybody hug...

Remember...it's for fun!
Good. Nicely done everyone. Glad this turned out well and the misunderstanding is resolved. I'll skip the shower but I do like s'mores. :)
Yep, Mountain Man, I'm a big fan of the PM myself. :thumb:

So....anyway...DO people note other people's sigs? :)

Ralph

Apparently not, for the most part.

I will usually glance at them, but don't often click on the links that lead to other Gaugers layouts because then I would spend hours and hours and not get to the threads I want to read on the Gauge. wall1 wall1

Some while back I started putting together a page of links that I could use as a shortcut when I was looking for parts, info. etc...It grew quite a bit and I began thinking that it might be nice to share it with other mrr's. I started a thread about it and I'm ashamed to say I don't recall who it was, but it was suggested that I put a link to the main page in my signature. Once someone clicked on it they could follow links to all of the different pages. It's not a commercial site. It's just been a labor of love.

I guess that the best I can hope for from my signature is that people will click on it once, bookmark it, and then ignore it; unless they would like to share it with someone else. :thumb:

I like it when people have a links to layouts & current projects. It makes it nice to be able to go directly to there when they mention it about it in a post.

Yes, I regularly read the sigs. In fact, I clicked a couple of funwithtrains's links before replying to his hello thread. If there's a link in your sig, odds are I've visited it. Sometimes I find the sigs easier to remember than the user names...particularly helpful with an avatar image changes.

Since this entire forum is about showing your work, additional links in the signature spaces are totally redundant.
Even if my links are referring you to my work here? I'm not sure if I follow you on this one. Or maybe that is exactly what you were referring to as redundant.

I've had people comment that the links in my sig have directed them to my work before. I do not think they are redundant...rather, they serve as an index.

We have had a lengthy discussion regarding the costs of maintaining this forum, along with another one re the actual usefulness of "signatures.

One of the primary functions of the forum is to allow modelers to show their work; therefore, using up bandwidth with lists of links as "signatures" is both redundant and wasteful. If you have work you want to show, by all means do so. If you wish to be permanently referenced, there are a number of sites that do nothing but that. This site could probably post such a list just as easily.

I don't follow "signature" links because too many of them lead nowhere, are outdated, discontinued or downright misleading in terms of content. I would rather the link be posted in a specific context, as part of a member's presentation of their current project, for example.

It's ironic when a member posts a brief response, and 75% of the remaining space is taken up by lengthy lists of links to sponsors, hobbies and other interests. That is not exactly a "signature".

Allright, I sat here and pondered that for a little while and I think I kind of like that idea. For reference, I like having all my links in my signature but I don't really care for the fact that it shows up EVERY SINGLE TIME I POST. What I did was created a new thread where the very first post contains links to all my layouts. If I create a new one, or remember an old thread of mine that I (or somebody else for that matter) feel could be beneficial to someone, I will edit it into that page. That page is now the only link in my signature. Let's see how that works for a while.:thumb:

I too have cut down a mite on my signature. I was informed that I had too many pictures, which seemed to indicate anything but words. Can't say I'm disappointed though. Who needs more than one smiley in their signature?

Of course, every time you post you can choose to include or not include your signature, and as mentioned you can filter them all if you hate them.

A bigger bandwidth pet peeve for me is choosing to quote a message in the reply when it's one or two messages before with 6 photos and the 6 photos show up again :(

I'll occasionally dive in on a sig link (like "My favorite engine" or what have you) when the link title or interest in what the poster's layout site looks like grabs me. As Clark noted, though, it's easy to lose yourself for a while if you try to follow too many.

I enjoyed a good laugh when this thread popped up in the 'new posts' list.

Just shows how language works, and how easy it is to misunderstand words when the whole context is not fully understood.

I have decided to make a 'black list of

On topic:

I have seen on forums where people argue over artistic interpretation - a matter of opinion rather than hard fact - hence my sig.

I have to agree with you on this one, Jason. You can edit the quoted text (as I did with your post) and pictures, though, so only the part to which you wish to refer is cited. It probably saves some time for those on dial-up, and it also clarifies your own remarks in reference to the original post. Simply highlight the non-pertinent stuff and hit "Delete". :-D
