Larry,
The passenger cars were part of the excursion trips that the I&O used to run in the very early 90's from Logan to Canal Winchester and from Jackson to West Junction during the Jackson Apple Festival. I worked as a volunteer on both excursions and was most likely on that train in the picture. 71 was indeed a great engine and the inspiration for my screen name. Ah, the good old I&O days. I've got a few pictures from Jackson that I can post and I might have some from the Logan-Canal trips, but I'll have to dig a little.

Cool! What's with the passenger cars?

The I&O did an excursion trip and if I remember right each passenger car was a privatly owned car that the owners got together and did a trip, found out about it from Dad's boss at the time who ran an electric motor repair shop. I can not remember where the trip went but I had fun.:thumb:

I have a lot of family up in Willard Ohio and drive thru Bucryus pretty often, is there a local train club up there if so the brauts festival would be a good place to show off:mrgreen:

Awsome, is the I&O still around and do they do trips anymore? My Dad worked at the electric motor shop in Groveport back then, wow what a small world:wave::mrgreen:

Small world indeed. Unfortunately neither the #71 or the excursion trips are still around. I've lost track of the 71, last I knew she was in McCollough yard awaiting sale or a torch. The excursions ended around or with the RailTex takeover and with "Rail"America at the helm now I wouldn't ever count on them coming back:(
Be sure to check out the I&O in Logan for sure because the office and base of operations are being closed soon and moved to Lancaster. The yard will remain for now but I would expect some of the tracks to be removed as the yard isn't really needed like it used to be. A sad state of things for sure, especially if you were around Logan back in the beginning of the I&O like I was.
On a lighter note, you will love the trip on the HVSRY. The HVSRY has become very very popular over the last couple years and I would get there early and make sure you take the longer trip to Logan, that way you get to see the whole line. You don't go all the way into Logan anymore but it's still a real nice trip. If you want to try something really cool, go there on the 4th of July because the HVSRY has shuttle trains that take you from the station to Hocking College to watch the fireworks. Make sure you get an open air car cause the night breeze on the rails is wonderful. Last year they put into service an old B&O coach fully restored in original B&O colors. It's a beautiful thing to see. Sorry for the commercial but my Grandfather is the president of the HVSRY so I gotta kinda sell it when I can you know:thumb: Enjoy your trip and let us know how it goes.
