Thanks guys! All of the switches are Peco #8 long radius. (36" diverging route.) I do have some medium radius switches, but they will only be used on some industrial areas.
( Those areas will be restricted to 4 axle power!)

Here is the first part of the Mountain Sub, up until now, I've been working on the Foothills Sub. This is west of the main yard, there will be 3 tracks with some industries on each side of the main.

I also finished another section in the main yard. There is now 2 seperate yards each with 5 tracks, and a mianline at the left.

I put a few more trains on the layout, and of course ran them, just to check the track out!

I'm using Atlas flex track. ( It's all from the old layout too! ) I shouldn't have to buy any track or switches for this layout.

I got most of the main yard laid and wired now. I still have to do the diesel shop tracks and some industry, but for now, I can run trains into the yard and switch them out on the yard leads. ( now progress will slow! ) There are 17 tracks with 3 leads in and out to yard and switch to.

Here is the west end of the yard...

This is the east end...

And this is looking west at the yard leads. The one on the left will go to an industry.

And heading into the yard...

Sweet Jeebus! That is a big yard.

How do you eventually plan to run all the turnouts Mike?

I have the power of foresight and I foresee a box load of switch machines in your future! :p

All the switches will be manual, just like a real yard. I can't imagine how much it would cost me to make them all power!

Almost all of my engines are Kato, SD40's, SD40-2's,AC4400's and SD90's. The only Atlas engines are some GP40's and GP38-2's. ( They would be Kato also, if they still made them! ) I do also have 5 Life Like GP9's, I got them very cheap a while back, I think they were $15 each! They made good painting projects!

LOL!!! No kidding eh! I'll be placing an order for a dozen Tortoise machines in the next couple of weeks to help motorize the switches for my layout. I'll still need another four after that

...however that should keep me up to my eyeballs in wiring for weeks to come.

I'm really looking foward to seeing your progress this time around. Keep up the hard work!

I'd need about 70 switch machines if I wanted to do the entire yard. I think I'll just stay with manual!

Ahh, come'on. You've already spent both arms, why not a leg or two.

I don't blame you, with a shelf layout manual is the way to go. imho.

It looks like some of that trackwork could have been a bit challenging to place in behind the hot water heater (?) and that bracing up against the wall.

Looking great

Hi Mike,
I'm impressed.
Would love to drop in on you in April during the big show in Calgary.
My club guys got over to see your buddy, Grant Eastman, at last years show and his layout is amazing too.
Still working, (slow but sure), on my own layout.
I guess I should try to update with some more photos
Dennis.... with the Edmonton N Scalers.

Sure Dennis, I'll PM you with my number and you can drop by, Grant hasn't had to many op sessions this winter, so I had to get my own layout going again! His layout is amazing, and gave me the inspiration for my last one.

Hi Mike,
Never did get your number?
We are hitting the road to Calgary on Saturday A.M.
I'm sure you will be at the show, so just email me where we might find you.

Yes it was! ( as a matter of fact, I'm still not finished the staging yard behind the furnaces!) It might have been easier to lay the track BEFORE I put the benchwork up!
