I just watched The Magnificent Seven today. Towards the begining there is a train scene where James Coburn has a gun fight with another guy. In the back ground there is a train lettered FCI #67. The movie was shot in Mexico I think. Can anybody give me anymore details on the railroad or engine?

Has anyone mentioned "Broken Arrow"? I noticed a movie "mistake" with that train scene when they uncoupled the car's. Look closely!

I'm pretty sure Sierra RR #3 has been in more films than any other locomotive in history. Everything from the Marx brothers' Go West to High Noon to Back to the Future 3.

Theres also a really obscure TV movie from the 80's with Mickey Rooney called Treasure Train. In it, they restore and old steam engine.

:thumb: Clark, there are two versions of 3:10 to Yuma, which are you refering to. Also how about "Jewel of the Nile" if you're into foriegn trains.

Not sure if I should include this one as technically its a truck and not a train- but it is on the rails (just finished watching it again- got the whole mad max trilogy as a present)
but then people have no problems with modelling the galloping goose- so i'll put it in

mad max 3- beyond thunderdome

There must be scores of films "starring" trains, but I bet the first was Buster Keaton's "The General" (1927). What a great film - amazing stunts, and still funny (humor often ages poorly)! And a spectacular train wreck as a bonus.

No, actually I'll have to look it up, but I believe the very first motion pictures were shot by a French fellow, and were of trains passing through a major station, back in the 1890-somethings.

*edit* Aha! The Lumiere brothers short film L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat was shot in 1895.
