Next up?

Thanks Gearz. I really gotta get over the whole humility thing sign1.

As for what's next, here are the votes so far:

  • nothing: gemini transport
  • Elliot: Gemini Transport, Refinery ship and Agricultural ship - in that order.
  • skupilkinson: Refinery ship for me. then Pegasus gets the Galactica treatment. (You're right, I'm not ready for another big one, but we gotta do that one!)
  • CJTK1701: Pegasus in scale with a three foot G.
  • theo: surprise us.
  • paulhbell: Colonial one designed in scale with the new big G.
(While neither the Pegasus nor Colonial one were listed in the three options above, this is a very interesting idea.
How big is Jaybats Colonial one?
How big is C1 compared to Galactica?
In scale with a 3 foot Galactica, wouldn't this be a tiny model? Maybe I could do a quick, simple C1 in scale.
    )
  • doc_harvey: I'd like to see the Viper! Especially in a larger scale.
(Well, the vipers are available elsewhere, and we do want to finish up the ships that aren't out there yet)
  • jaffro: Colonial One in scale with the Big G seems like a good choice. Other than that, as a huge fan of the original series, I would KILL for a large scale original Viper with all the trimmings.
  • ekuth: I'll second that. We definitely need a LARGE scale TOS viper.

Hmmmmmm. Seems to be a pattern developing here. I kind of remember someone on the forum working on a large scale Viper - does anyone else?
Anyway, here's what I'm thinking:
1. Gemini Transport
2. Refinery Ship
3. Agro ship
4. I need help finishing my 57' Belvedere project and Seaview submarine. Volunteers?
5. Depending on the state of Jaybats tutorials, and any other tutorials that come out between now and then, I may take a break and build models and write tutorials. We need more developers!
6. Large scale Viper with lot's of detail (this will be a separate thread, and you will all have to help me find the materials)
7. Pegasus

All of this may change of course if someone is willing to become an apprentice and start mastering Meta. With technologies like Crossloop, MS Messenger, audio and video chat etc. we could do live learning sessions. Think about it.....

Sounds like a plan SJ. ;)

I'm up for learning more of Meta. I've been using it more lately but still have along way to go. Lessons sound cool for me.

I think if a large scale Viper is going to get done though, that should be a project where each Viper type gets the same treatment?? MkI, MkII, MkVII, Blackbird. Even the Scarlet Viper? All in same large scales? Would make a great thread and display when they're all done?

As for Colonial One. It can enter the flight pods of the Galactica to land so it's tiny in comparrison.

Okay then. You nothing and CJTK1701 want to master Meta. Since my last post I wandered over to see how far along Jaybats is with his tutorials, and the stuff there is great (as one would expect from Master Jaybats), and very close to what I would have done.

So, step one is to wander over there yourselves and work through his lessons.
Step two, is to get the registered version of Meta ($45 US) if you don't already have it.

Skupilkinson, since you're in England, one-on-one's on the phone will be problematic, but if you want to set up times we can use MSN or something like that. We just need to coordinate times - I'm at GMT-7 (GMT-6 in a couple weeks when DST starts).

CJ - where are you located? I mentioned to nothing that my long-distance plan let's me call anywhere in North America for cheap, so I'm willing to hook up and do lessons by phone, and using Crossloop , MSN, or something similar. Send me a PM with your email address and we'll connect.

To everyone else:

Nothing and Skupilkinson are already getting feedback to me on the unfolding so we're moving along pretty quickly. I'll probably be the one holding up things (again).

More to come soon,

SJ

Just so we don't take this thread off track, let's continue this discussion by email, but specifically I could use some help with test building (which you excel at) and with refining the design of the Belvedere, which would probably best be done through test builds as well. When the time comes I'll start another thread in the appropriate forum and we can have at it if you're up for it.

Hugeness

I've finally got the better of my perfectionist nature and am calling the layout for the small version of the Galactica finished. Now I have to do up some assembly instructions and the layout for the 3 foot version. The layout for the mid section, in the 1.5 foot version comes in at 10 pages. The bridge is 6 pages, and the rear section 4, for a total of 20 pages  And that's the small version . I estimate that the three foot version will be approximately huge.

I just wanted to 'bump' this thread, and ask how everythings going with the fleet. I'm another one who's stopped getting email notifications from this thread, been over a month now.

Thanks for the links to Jays tutorials SJSQUIRREL. I missed those as well.

Update

Sorry for the lack of activity everyone. I seem to be having a life. It's kind of weird :eek:ops: I'm not really used to it.

Jaybats, that picture is hilarious - thanks for the laugh.

The layout for the 3 foot version is done (only 63 pages) and I have been working on the assembly instructions. I decided to go for one set of instructions that covers both the large and small version of the model. So far the assembly instructions are 13 pages for the front and rear sections. Probably a comparable amount for the mid section.

LOL. "Technically", I'm not the moderator for this subforum... TheWebdude is...

Who I haven't seen around lately, come to think of it.

Originally, I shared mod duties with Ashrunner over in the Real Space subforum, but I spend most of my time here anyhow, so I may as well be.

*looks to cgutzmer*

How about it, Chris?

Anyhow, regardless of the semantics, I'm happy to help anyway I can.

Jaybats, my monitor has coffee-stains on it thanks to you... :thumb:

Sj: Looks damn good mate! And btw, you bear more than a passing resemblance to a guy I met when I worked at Grand Canyon National Park. (Minus the green hair) Your name wouldn't happen to be Ben, would it?

Heads up guys. Season 4 starts in the US on 4th April and in the UK on 15th April. Sci-Fi Channel in the US and Sky 1 in the UK. Razor is on Sky 1 8th April, I'm not sure when Razor is on in the US.

Last series?

paulhbell

Yeah, I've had the dvd for a while as well. Quite a good episode/film.

eh, I'm mixed on Razor myself, but it was good to see the old school Cylons.

Looking forward to the final season of BSG!

I didn't think season 3 was all that good, I hope season 4 is better.
