Hello! I currently model in HO Scale, but due to lack of space I am considering
modeling in N Scale.I use to model in N Scale in the late 80's when engines and cars were not the quality they are now.I model the Milwaukee Road from
Perry,Iowa-Savanna,Illinois from 1979-1985 as if the mainline was redone with 132 pound rail and the Milwaukee was in a healthy state money wise.My first
layout in N Scale was 4'x8' and I would like to have a layout about 4'x12' to 12'x12'.I am looking at an L shaped or U shaped layout and would go a small as 10'x10' with an U shaped layout,if I do 4'x12' it would be U shaped or L shaped.I would like to include the Sabula swing truss drawbridge which is a scale 364' long.I would use SD40-2's for the freight trains and MP15AC's for switching.I know the MP15AC's would have to be kitbashed as threre are none in plastic in N Scale and the Atlas MP15DC would be used as a starting point. Train length would be from 25-35 cars long with a bay window caboose at the end. All types of freight cars would be used from auto racks, piggyback flats to box cars, grain hoppers, gondolas, tank cars, reefers and bulkhead flats and cement hoppers.Any ideas will be appreciated.I will use searchlight signals and crossing signals with operating gates for realism. If anyone has done an MP15AC kitbash in N Scale let me know. Also the fuel tanks will have to be shortened on the SD40-2's to 3200 gallons. This id a great forum and I love all the different topics. Steve Church Milwaukee Road Iowa Division

That is very close to what I would need. How about the MP15AC's> and the SD40-2's? I would need fuel tanks shortened to 3200 gallons on the SD40-2's.

What's the actual space in the room for the layout, and what else has to be there?

Right now the wife and I have about a 14'x14' bedroom that we have 2 dressers,a queen size bed and my computer desk with my computer on it. We
hope to move later this year to a house.I could always start out with a 4'x8' or 4'x12' L shape layout and enlarge it later. The MP15AC's I wondered about using the Atlas MP15DC as a starting point. Steve Church Milwaukee Road Iowa Division

N Scale Modeling

I spoke with Jeff King at Milwaukee Road Train Shop om Sunday and the MP15AC project is a go.using the Atlas MP15C power chassis and drive train,an MP15AC conversion kit will be made including handrails. So far there are 20 orders for the MP15AC conversion kits. Hopefully one of the manufacturers will make these MP15AC's in N Scale scale length.let me know off line if you want one of these conversion kits.I am going to change the era I am modeling to 1979-1980.I will have to use 40' trailers for my piggyback cars and I will have enclosed auto racks bi level and tri level along all other types of freight cars and bay window cabooses.
