Galactica getting closer

I did a bunch of work tonight closing up and texturing the areas around the landing bay arms. With the retractable arms there are areas that end up exposed that wouldn't be otherwise. Getting close now. :thumb:

Theo, nice job on the tube ship. That's dedication - even building the ones you don't like for the fleet. You could have just said they were destroyed by Cylons  Keep the pictures coming. It's nice to see that people are building these ships. Helps keep me motivated and on track.

Steve

Hey SJ. Just want to say you're doing a great job on this. I know it's become a solo project to you but I want you to know I'm still in if you want to get another ship from the fleet out there.

I've just been too busy to assist with testbuilding parts of the Galactica lately.

Sorry I've not been of much use. :)

Howdy guys, always a pleasure to check in here.. I don't get the op to visit as much as I'd like to, so I miss lotz of interesting stuff as it happens, but boy when I do login.... its like Christmas! Hats off to the colonial ship yard crew, some excellent models on offer. Its been said already but I'll have to add another big thank you for all your effort. There's enough new BSG stuff here to choke a dinosaur ! ~ Shiny.. I'd better get to buildin'...buildin'....buildin'

Doc ~ Where ? ( Tissue Time.) ~ Thanks to my own stupidity, i've been in purgatory! My old steam driven PC left me and took everything with it!, which I'm finding difficult to understand, because we had such a great relationship over the last 8 1/2 years. A few mates recon it was just.. using... ME.. .[sob] In the process of using a borrowed laptop ( ThinkPad + Xp = I HATE IT!!) + a MacGyvered machine to recover/rebuild. I figure a spot of building will be good therapy.

*Ladies and Gentlemen, If you don't have (multiple) backups of your good stuff.. stop reading and go and back up your files NOW.. !!

Solo? whaddaya mean?

Hey SJ. Just want to say you're doing a great job on this. I know it's become a solo project to you but I want you to know I'm still in if you want to get another ship from the fleet out there.

Sorry I've not been of much use. :)

Whaddaya mean solo? More like slow-mo. Maybe once every couple weeks I get the energy to sit down and get a bit more done, then I realize what I messed up last time, fix that, then make a little progress.....

Don't feel bad at all about test building. Nothing has been there when the need arose. That's teamwork!

As for doing another ship in the meanwhile, I'm finding I just don't have the time. When I do get time I'd rather spend it on the GAL and get her done, then I can move on to the next ship on our list.

I reworked the area around the landing bay arms yesterday to make them closer to how it appears in the show. Once I integrate those changes here's what's left:

1) Make some flat (2D) cannons to stick on it. Anyone want to tackle that for me?
2) Split the texture into smaller pieces and adjust textures on model parts. (Pepakura has a limit of 1024X1024 on textures, and this ship has a 2048X2048 texture map). To maintain the quality I've got to split up the texture into 1024X1024 pieces.
3) Do a zillion screen shots and get the model unfolded. nothing, skupil, we talked sometime back about one of you doing the unfold and instructions for the front, one for the rear and I'd do the middle. Are you both still on board for that? Be honest if you've gotten too busy.

I'm really trying to get this baby done so I can start on my entry for the free model competition #3. Unfortunately I made the mistake of picking up seasons 2.0 and 2.5 on DVD last week, so that's occupying a little time too. Sorry about that! Oh yeah - I also ordered my CD of kooklik's type VII sub. It may be years before I can actually start on it, but I had to have it .

Hang in there everyone, it will arrive.

Hey SJ,

Of course I'm still in to help with unfolding and instruction. :) I'm busy with other things but I always said I'd be in to help here with the fleet.

As for the canons, is this what you meant?
Gal Canon.jpg

Just a flat image of them to use as a 2D representation?

Howdy Steve ~ your doing some impressive design work mate..:thumb: lol.. chews up the time eh..

sherban ~ Thank you for your comments. Of all the SF franchises, I recon the models being Dev'ed here from the BSG series have really benefited for co-operative development. ( Just have to look at the quality of the models being pump out..) Its may have a few flea's ~ time wise, but as Sj mentions above, teamwork has major beifits and makes it an enjoyable process. The TOS Galactica model probably wouldn't have made out of the yards if it wasn't for everyone's help and input here.. Very nice build on the bigG! I'm going to be a little slow off the mark catching up, PM me and let me know if its kewl to add your pix to a gallery at my site.?

A good reason to say thank you for all the beta builders who worked for this model, 'cause I really waited it very impatiently.

That's the ticket

Skip,

Essentially yes, that's what I was looking for. What I was thinking was someone taking the cannon in the ship pack mesh, and reducing it to a flat image like that. I want to use the one in the mesh so the textures and proportions match.

Been delayed this week since my wife went out of town for 5 days, but it turned into 12 days due to the death of a close friend of hers. It worked out well in the sense that she was already half way there, and was available to catch a flight, lend a hand and shoulder, attend the funeral etc. Left me on full-time parent duty though. I have a whole new appreciation for the trials and tribulations of single parents

Damage as already been done, 2 pages of 'crap' (sorry). Mods please deleate the last 2 pages. We don't need this type of thing here.

Can we have some more BSG models. Please.
