Sorry Sarge, i couldn't remember what year the UP/Rio Grande take over went down:eek:ops: , instead of looking it up in my files, i had a pic of the Rio Grande Heritage unit(#1989) on my desktop and i thought all the heritage numbers were the year of each roads take over:confused: ...thats what i get for being lazy:toug::119: .

i like the history/theme your layout will have:thumb: , many possibilities for different roads:thumb::thumb::thumb: .

Well, after two and a half weeks of waiting:rolleyes: , i got my UP MP15AC in the mail today!

Don't ask me how it runs, i just took it out of the box and took these pics as "before" shots, thats before i add some decals and weathering to it:winki: . i noticed this engine, is lacking the UPY and warning red/white stripes, just the same as my MP15DC was:rolleyes: , so ill be adding those decals soon. as you can see, the antenna came bent and the railing on one side is off, no big deal those are easy fixes:thumb: .

this engine will make a great match to run with my MP15DC:thumb: (last pic).

i have a few more modeling projects going on:twisted: , i hope to have them finished up close to the end of the week:winki: . well, time to get back to the projects:thumb: .

Hey Deano, So cool a step by step. I can't wait, this is just what I need. I'm thinking you and Steve should get together for a book. I can see it now. "Musings from the Gauge" sign1

Sarge, well, the MP15AC runs on DC like the other Genesis engines i have did, pretty good, but they run MUCH BETTER with a decoder in them:winki::mrgreen: .

Roger, YOU BET I'm putting sound in it:thumb: . despite what others say, I LIKE MRC SOUND DECODERS:eeki::thumb::mrgreen: , and WILL BE putting in MRC's #0001643 sound decoder in it:winki: . i have heard MP15's and i feel that sound decoder is the closest i ever heard to them:thumb: . about half my engines have Loksound, the other half have MRC sound decoders, they both have there good points and bad points, but in my eyes for diesels i feel BOTH of them are GREAT choices for sound decoders:thumb::mrgreen: ...just MY opinion:winki: .

Joe, a "step by step" on what? as far as doing a book with Steve, I'm afraid i wouldn't have much to offer:eek:ops: , besides, i think if Steve and i got together, VERY LITTLE work would get done:119: , more BSing then anything:winki::119: .

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...
I have a few projects going on right now(a few 1000 really:rolleyes: ), the GERN has been one of the top 4 projects i have been doing, along with doing up my NEW MP15AC, and two boxcars:thumb: .

Doing undecorated engines isn't new to me, i have done a few of them, but this is the VERY FIRST time i have attempted to do boxcars:winki: . of coarse one of the boxcars i bought will be a UP:mrgreen: , but since i am doing a GERN, i felt compelled to make up a GERN boxcar:thumb: .

This boxcar is a Proto 1000 Evans single door box, these were made in 1972, so they will fit in on my layout perfectly:thumb: . i PM'ed Wayne to ask permission to do it, and sent him a pic of it when i only had the large GERN letters on the side . Wayne gave me his blessings, and a number to start with:thumb: , Wayne, i hope this meets the standards for a GERN boxcar:eek:ops: . i also believe this is the VERY FIRST GERN boxcar...ever?

I will post pics of the GERN factory, and my NEW MP15AC after i get some more work done on them:winki: .

pics below: before and after shots of the GERN(my FIRST boxcar) boxcar.

Look GREAT Deano! I can only wish I had as much talent at painting as you do!

The new loco looks great, but im not sure I like the UP scheme.sign1 Just kiddin'. I love it, but how do you fix the bent antena, I always end up snapping them off.

Canada, eh?
Dean, the boxcar looks great. :thumb::thumb: Nice, understated paint and lettering, and a "used but not abused" weathering job. Perfect modern image for GERN, and up to 3% more modern than some older images of GERN. You're also correct about it being the very first GERN boxcar, but perhaps your good-looking prototype will lead the way for more. ;):-D:-D
Nice work, my friend. By the way, the MP15s look pretty decent, too. ;):p:-D

Deano, I love that GERN boxcar. Nice clean (I’m not talking about the weathering :p) looking design. But it’s no surprise that it turned out to be so nice: If it’s GERN, it’s good.

Well Deano I was doing my taxes when I was reading this post yesterday and I took the fact that im getting money back as a sign. So ordered two (1413,1427, they look so nice in pairs)from
MP15AC: TRACKSIDE SALES
104.99 apiece after quantity discount. Not the best price but not bad. Every other place was out. MRR had a good review of them in the March issue.

Kevin, THANK YOU, for the kind words:smilie: . i was lucky and was able to bend the antenna back without it breaking:mrgreen: . if the antenna would have broke, it wouldn't have been that big a deal, i keep firecracker antennas on hand, so i just would have replaced it:winki: .

Sarge, THANK YOU:smilie: . no, i didn't make any decals, the large GERN letters are Woodland Scenics dry transfers, and all the rest of the lettering is from UP and CNW decal kits i have had here:winki: .

Wayne, THANKS, i am glad the boxcar has met your approval:worship:  . HONESTLY, i really wanted to put "Industries" under the GERN, but the dry transfers just wasn't working out as well as i hoped:eek:ops: . if i had an alphabet decal sheet with black letters, the box car would have been a little different:winki: , but i was doing that project on the cheap, so i just used what i had on hand:eek:ops: , i am happy with how it turned out though:thumb: .

Kurt, THANK YOU for the complement! . GLAD you popped in:thumb: , i haven't seen you around for awhile.

Joe, hmm...a step by step on detailing the MP15AC, GOOD IDEA!
Really, Athearn did a GREAT job on them:thumb: , I'm just going to add some decals to it to make it a little closer to some pics i have of them, and do some weathering on it:winki: . i have pictures of UP MP15DC's that run around here, i have to check if i have any pics of UP MP15AC's that i MAY have taken. i have MANY pics of UP's MP15AC's, but sadly i wasn't the one that took them, so i cant post 'em:frowns: .

Zachary, THANKS! GLAD you got your computer fixed:thumb: . REAL GLAD you thanked your buddy for letting you use his computer till you got yours fixed, that was nice of him to help you out:thumb: .

Roger, WOW!:eeki: , you bought TWO of those engines:eeki: , and as UP also:eeki: , GOOD CHOICE!!!:thumb: :thumb:  . good idea two run them in pairs:winki: , thats how they run them up here:thumb: (well, the DC's anyways:119: ) I am going to run my MP15AC with my MP15DC:winki::mrgreen: .

*******************************************************
I took these pictures in Janesville, Beloit and S.Beloit:mrgreen: , the only thing is, these are ALL MP15DC's, NOT AC's:eek:ops::119: . i think i have one pic of a UP MP15AC i took in the Harvard yard, if memory serves me right, it wasn't in to good of shape:confused: . I'll go through the pics i have taken and try and find it:winki: , I'll post it tonight when i do:thumb: .

Well, i found the pic i took that i thought was a UP MP15AC:thumb: , turns out its NOT:eeki::119: , its an MP15DC:toug::119: . the second pic below is a pic of UP's DC's in the Harvard yard, i took that pic on Oct. 20/06:thumb: .

looks like i am going to have to rely on AC pics that other people have taken:eek:ops: , all UP's MP's up here are ALL DC's:119: .
