Red Curbs!!!

I decided to takle the tough job of painting red curbs. it was not easy but i did it and with some weathering i can dull the redness down a bit. Next time i will pain the red curbs first and then paint the sidewalks and then attach them to the module rather then doing it all backwards. it was a pain in the a**. I had already painted the streets and sidewalks before i decided i wanted red curbs so when i started i got red paint on both the sidewalks and streets so i had to go back and touch up both after the red paint had dried wall1 wall1 but im likeing the looks of them

CAT Equipment yard

Heres the final size of the yard, as you can see i need a heck of a lot more equipment to fill the yard up realistically. The gravel tracks will not be in the yard, just placed them in there as fillers so there wasnt as much white space lol. I also added in the back Retaining Wall for the yard.

Building Front Parking Lot

I cemented some grass and bushes between the sidewalk and parking lot for the building. Dont mind the GIANT train boxes in the backround lol. Also the shine on the sidewalks will be taken off with some weathering. It kinda looks like it was just raining from the shine on the sidewalks lol.

Hey Trucklover,

Looking good. I have been following this module since you first announced it and am thouroughly impressed. I was thinking I might try and do something similar down the road. And as someone who has operated lots of that machinery before it is nice to see a wide selection. Especially the motorscrapers as that is my families suplement to their farmer income.

Couple questions for you. What products did you use for the sidewalk and the road? Was it Woodland Scenics?

Thanks,
Beamish

Keep It Moving!
for the sidewalk, you should consider the rix products sidewalk. It looks prettygood, and is about that size. It definitely looks good to, and it might be easier to paint.

woodland scenics also makes concrete top-coat, the same stuff you used for your roads, but tan colored. Its worth it, most concrete surfaces on my layout are painted with it.

it also works good for weathering the black asphault top coat if you really rub it in there.

Wow! :thumb:
I echo my previous statement about your speed and talent.
A bit of constructive criticism?
Those roads look as though they are brand new...
I am guessing that this scene is set in present time?
If so, then having freshly blacktopped roads is not a stretch. It will be nice to see it with the vegetation.
As always, I am waiting for more. Keep up the great work.
Have you considered that you could supplement your income by building layouts for folks who don't have the time or talent?

Hi Beamish,

Thanks!!!  I love the variety of equiment and ill have a couple more pieces too like some off road dump trucks, water trucks, bobcats (or skid steer loaders), mini excavators, some paveing equipment and maybe some forlifts too.

The sidewalks are NU-LINE structures and the roads are Woodland Scenics Smooth-It road system :thumb:

Thanks Larry

Wow, that is one SHINY sidewalk!

Josh and G.E.C., im planning on weathering the sidewalks with chalk to take that shine right off. I used Polly Scale "aged concrete" color for the sidewalks. I tried the Woodland Scenics "concrete" color but it would not stick to the plastic sidewalk. The yard in front of the Service Bays is painted with Woodland Scenics "concrete"

Hi Matt and thanks!! I always enjoy constructive criticism. It helps us all make things better :thumb:

For the roads I was planning on makeing it look as if the roads are in progress of being re-paved. I have not been able to lay down the other stretch of road yet but when I do i plan to paint it with one side black and one side older grey simulateing the normal wear and tear from traffic and of coarse the sun. Ive always seen where they will block one lane off on a street and pave it one lane at a time on a 2 lane road so thats what im going for with this one. Ill have the right lane a nice new crisp black for new asphalt and the left lane and the center divider the old grey pavement

Never considered that before, that could be something to look into tho

Guard Rail

I did some of the guard rail that will run the entire module. I sprayed it silver. I havent glued it in place yet as i want to be able to take it out when working on the rest of the module so i dont break it or bump it. I will finish the side of the road with some dirt around the posts to make a "shoulder"

TruckLover, did they load that KW out in the street or what? Seems like they would have been quite an interuption to the traffic.
