It's not rocket surgery
Roco Russian WW2 truck

This truck is from a Russian manufacturer, and is available from Roco. I have four of these to do up for a friend who is helping me with module framework and wiring...

While it is a model of a circa WW2 Russian military vehicle, it is a nice stand-in for circa 1920s North American trucks.

Basic black paint is Testors Engine Black on top, and Grimy Black underneath. Weathering is done with brown and tan craft paints, and the mirror and headlights are also craft paint (silver).

The truck comes as you see it in the last two pictures, along with a little bag of details to add - exhaust, driveshaft, window glass, and headlights. The Cab comes off, and the steering wheel is removable if you want to add interior detail or a driver. The only "after market" additions are the mirror (0.015 wire and a bit of sprue) and the barrel in the back (also scratchbuilt from 1/4" dowel and wine bottle foil ;)).

BNSF truck I made with some stickers. Great truck, it even comes with the ability to be put on the rails if you want to keep that attached to the truck.

COMBAT. I LOVE that scene, I want to find room for something like that on my layout, but what did you use for roads and dirt? It all looks so real!

Here is my latest project, I have an Athearn telesquirt body and a Boley tanker cab, I noticed how the colors line up, and thought hey!, kitbash time! I dont know how to connect them though, I want the cab to stay with the chassis because then I can keep the fuel tanks, but the fire body wont fit on the tanker frame, and the boley truck wont fit on the ex Ford C chassis. How could I connect the Boley (diecast frame, and the Athearn plastic frame? Does it look okay as a single axle? I think it does.

Well part of the road is tar paper from roofing. Part of it is wall joint compound shaped and sanded then painted. The dirt, its real dirt. :) Just sifted down. I cant see paying all this money for dirt in a can when I can get it from my own property.

Thanks for looking! :)

What color did you use to paint the concrete road surface? I know I know, gray, but what shade?

I'd say use the Boley, but cut out the suspension & wells, and use the one from the Athearn frame. Then use the Athearn Wheels.
