MR 2005 Carolina Central

See my reply in the Nscale.net forums about scanning. The issue is still available for purchase through Kalmbach (which I just did). A wye is formed on the right side of the layout, connecting to a narrow shelf containing a staging yard. Connections are made to the front of the curve, behind the existing turnout for the passing siding, and to the rear of the curve, into the hidden staging.

Thanks. I did not realize the publication was still available. I just purchased directly from Kalmbach Publishing, so I am all set.

Mr 2005

Good to hear. The issue overall isn't bad (I purchased it for the same article). I'm in the process of building the Carolina Central as well. For what it's worth, I believe there are back issues available for several years back.

Scanning Articles

Ron,

That's between you and the wall, if you're ok doing that. I've also come around to the issues of "backing up" CDs and DVDs. I'm sure someone else will chime in on possible copyright issues as well, but I've said mine.... He has already ordered the issue, so the topic has been resolved anyway.

RE: copy/backup

The other difference is that once you've sent your copy to him, you still retain the original. So the publisher missed out on the chance to sell another copy of their material.

Backup is a little different. Assuming that you are not using both copies at once (i.e. on a CD player at home, and another in your car), the backup enables you to continue to use the material that you purchased.

Many of the drawings in MR carry the statement/release that the purchaser can make copies for his own use (presumably so you don't have to chop up the magazine). However, this does not extend to making copies for someone else, due to the reason in my opening paragraph.

Sorry Ron,

I just reread - if you mean that you send the original ("my copy"), then there is no problem. If you make a photocopy or other duplicate, then there's technically a problem, whether money is exchanged or not.
