Great layout Don,
Hope that stove under the bench with the curtain isn't live, you could soon be looking for a new hobby room/house.

Hi y'all

It's nearly 3 am here it's a warm 16 degrees out. I am gonna strap wings on and fly to Seattle for hopefully my final doctor's appointment with my surgeon or let's hope so because he retires in Jan. *LOL*

I like the train room Don, keep up the great work.

I will try to drop a line this evening when we get home "in 17 hours"

Shane

Good Morning................
It's a damp 37 degrees. Looks like a misty rain trying to turn to snow. Going up to 60 today with some light rain.
Don........Your layout is looking good. Keep the pictures coming.
Today, I will stay home and work around the house. Maybe some train time later.
Everyone have a nice day,
Chuck

We are being hit hard with freezing rain as I type this, started about 90 minutes ago and right now there 16,000 without power, mostly south of us. It is reported that this will continue until noon and then turn into snow, uff da. We've been spoiled for several consecutive years with gentle winters, now this....... where's Al Gore when we need him :) One county south of us they have 1" of ice on the ground, looks like a good day to stay inside and play!!!!!

Good Morning.

Doing some plotting on how I am going to bridge the gap between levels.
The black stip on the main level represents where I will place a road. I am thinking of using a building backdrop (this is only a scan, and I intend to use the actual building front - this one is from Cooch Enterprises).

77551705.jpg

The road will proceed through and I will place additional panels on each side to give the impression that road goes North/South down an industrial road. The third floor bridges the area above the road. past the building sides, I will place a track with some freight cars on it, as if a siding is in the distance. Lastly, I will place a photo looking down an industrail road at the very back to give it additional perspective.

This needs a lot of work, as there are many variables to cover. The base needs to be realistic regarding how it sits on the ground and the height needs to be worked so the edge of the lower portion of the top level is concealed, without going too high and blocking out the train on the bottom portion of the upper level. The roof top will need to be worked out as well.

However, it is a start, and it appears to be workable.

Morning all. Warmer than normal. Pecan leaves to get up today. Got tons. Yankee north wind blew them all off. Will blow them out so I can ride over them with JD and haul them to garden. One good thing about pecan leaves, if dry, they will grind up into a smaller amount. Now the willow oak leaves in the front are a different story.

Jon, praying you come out of this storm OK. Keep us posted.

Don B, I know someone helped you build that layout. You could not have done that good yourself. Really looks good.

Only Town thing is a guy coming by around noon to apply for a pool hall. How does that song go? Something about River City and pool?

Have a good one.

Good morning folks

At least it was not raining this morning. Several months it seemed like we could not buy a drop of rain, now it seems like it has been raining for weeks. Guess what it is supposed to rain some more tonight until Thursday. The high today is supposed to be 48 F. It was 38 F as I began my adventure today.

I continued painting the railings on the hoods of the coil cars. I can’t believe how much dreading installing the grab irons was interfering with my modeling. Now that I came to the conclusion not to install them I reenergized.

I hope everyone affected by the ice storms comes out OK. We got hit back in 1994 or 95. We went without power for about a day and a half with temperatures in the teens. There were so many people without power that they called in crews from other areas. Our power was restored by crews from Niagara Power and Light.

Tonight we have Cub Scout Roundtable so I am not sure what if anything modeling-wise will get done.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Chief--it's from Music Man. It's right at the beginning of the show and they keep singing "trouble, trouble, trouble, etc. and that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool"! Great show.

The rain continues and our temp is now up to 32, we now have .50 of ice on the ground. Wish it would all just turn to slush and then snow, much easier to deal with. All schools are closed, not delayed. Thank goodness no wind.

Jon

Doug--put on your seat belt, it's headed your way.

Mornin', all. Warm and foggy this a.m. Still need rain!

Frank53 - that looks like a great solution for the visual transition between the two levels! With your modeling skills, I'm sure it will turn out great!

I made my first purchase from the new Bachmann/Williams - a GP-38 in the GM&O scheme. The good news - the price has not increased and they're adding new road names (like the GM&O). The bad news - some of these road names will be limited offerings. Still, it's good to know I can continue to add Williams locomotives to my collection.

Have a good day, everyone!

WOW, what a change in weather. Suddenly fog rolled in. Suppose to be sunny and 80. Hope rain comes later this week.

Jon, you are right. Great movie. You win the prize. No loss of power from the freezing rain. [wish I could deliver that one] Praying for you.

Frank, you do some great work.

Dr. John, you sent your fog to me. We need rain too.

Good morning from a sleety Chicago where I think Jon's Iowa weather is heading our way. Closed schools at home. It certainly was convenient to take the train today - and I get to take the L later.

I've been changing the layout to allow Thomas, James and Percy to all run together with a trolley loop. This is Fortner Yard I put in one corner - replacing a simple trolley loop. James looks pretty good pulling the K-Line Santa Fe cars in his 'Express'...

Panning left, you can see the bridges I put in where the radon vent pipe comes out of the crawlspace - it's kind of squishy there, hence the cardboard underlay. I can't believe Percy can pull all those cars - he's at the top.

Continuing to the left, you can see the now-three main lines, and two sidings - the remaining trolley loop of pre-war track is at the top - this doesn't look right. You can see Eagles Ridge Electric Park somewhat dimmly at the top.
47b7cc31b3127cceb1f9439d9ae500000026100GZOG7lmxYs

Continuing to the left, I cut off the sidings - they were bunching the 027 track - the #520 is resting on a separate piece of track whilst I figure out how to isolate his siding.

Looking right again, see how Thomas's line wraps around the yard and circles the small town in the upper right. Mt Seaman is on the left.

Frank53, that is clever way of visually integrating both levels.

Jeffrey, I noticed you didn't post for a couple days and feared for the worst - please keep us posted while awaiting your new computer board. Does your library have a computer section with broadband?
Yes, it does. Problem is the library is nine miles from here.sign1

John Baker: I was thinking about the chimneys getting shorter; I thought about mentioning the double blastpipes and things, but wanted to keep it simple.
Chief: I've only been onto the CTT forums once or twice in the last year, since they changed the format and cut out Trains news to non-subscribers. Maybe I'll look at who's got your goat in their yard.
David,
Dare I mention the 'Geisel Ejector' I remember in the early 60s discussions in the railway technical press on ways of improving the thermal efficiency of The steam locomotive. But I will confine it to British Railway practice (another forum).
As far as I know non subscribers can only read the headlines in Kalmbach magazines, I subscribe to Trains which is the only one I can open.
Wonder if the goat is green?

Rail Spiking Fool!
It's going to get ugly sometime in the afternoon up around these parts. Freezing rain, sleet, snow...all of the good stuff. All the more reason to stay inside and work on the layout.

It's strange how such a large part of the country is getting ice storms and snow while the southeast is warm and balmy. Hope you folks up north weather the ice storms safely!

:wave:Don thanks for sharing pictures of your great layout! Nice Engine House too. Npehew back from Irac? Tell him thanks for his sacrafice and I appreciate what all the troops do for this great country of ours. :patriot1::patriot1::thumb::thumb:

I am building my first real layout and need to include a bridge. Where can a person pickup a large bridge like the one you have shown?

God Bless
