Morning from a grey and cold Crystal Lake - looks like a good day to spend indoors working on layouts in Pennsylvania. Great idea about the game camera! At least it's a great excuse to drive down to a new BPS a few towns over. I wouldn't mind so much if it was random... Great perspective on parenting, Don.

Good Morning All from NE Ohio
where it is a cool 39 deg with overcast skies.

John, be sure to oil the pivit point and where the pilot wheels slide on the underframe of that 2-8-0. Mine will give me problems if the pilot wheels don't floot freely.

Yesterday several of us from OTTS went to see the B & O roundhouse in Cleveland. The roundhouse is in really poor shape, sorry to say. :-|

Tom,

Cool shots of the old roundhouse. I like the brick in the pit. May have to try that on a model someday. Did you get any other shots of the steamer that was in the background?

Is there a group trying to restore the RH?

A bright and sunny day here in N Texas. High to be about 58. Gradually warming into the 60's this week with possible rain by the weekend.

Have a great day all!

Roy - yes we did! It is in poor shape. It ran for about 20 years on short runs with the CVSR without much matinance. Then when they towed it to here, they didn't lub any of the bearings.

so now it needs a total rebuild and about $750,000 to get it running again.

Tom, thanks for the pics of the roundhouse and turntable. Do you know if there are plans to restore them or the steam engine?

Got a really good rain last night and this morning. A bit warmer this afternoon now that the sun is coming up.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

Great shots indeed! I'm happy for that rain in the south. Just overheard the youngest (5 yrs old) very appropriately use the expression 'son of a bxxxx' he learned from his most recent watching of A Christmas Story... After my correction, I'm sure I'll next hear him say this someplace "appropriate " - like church. Sigh. ;)

Sorry, Doug, I cracked up when I read that!. Be sure, they will say something like that when you least expect it! I've heard some very interesting things from young children at church, much to their parents' consternation!

"A Christmas Story" is my eldest daughter's and my favorite Christmas season movie. I watched it yesterday for the umpteenth time. My wife just doesn't get it!

BTW, what brand soap did you use on your son?

Hi all,
Like the shots of the roundhouse. Real shame that someone forgot to mothball the loco correctly.
FIL and I got the lights up in the garage tonight. Also fitted the two loft hatches (gamesroom and garage).

Later Folks

Nice photos of the roundhouse and steam loco Tom. Reminds me of some of the worn out Missabe Steam Locos that have had to weather some Minnesota winters (Burrrrr!!!!). Hope something will be done to it, they are nice to keep around, the number of steam locos, even the ones that need repair is dwindling down.

Also worth mentioning, I had to write A TEN PAGE PAPER for english class. Luckily, it could be on anything. So I chose the history of the DMIR. I thought it turne out AWESOME! But the teacher only thought my A+ paper was worth a B. Still not a bad grade.

Where are all the pictures of the Christmas lights everyone is talking about? Lets see'um (theres my paper problem, look at my english skills!) already!

Turnips ready. Think we are having SOUTHERN fried chicken to go with turnips. I'm sure all the Yankees are jealous as they don't have turnips and turnip greens. bounce7 much especially SOUTHERN fried chicken. [or they would not admit it]

I know a Yankee rabbit that is jealous. He likes turnip greens.

Good news - a friend of mine from work found a Wii for us, so will have that tomorrow or the next day and my son's Christmas will be saved.

Had a great time running trains yesterday and definite plans for the Christmas layout. Won a MTH W&ARR canon car on ebay from trainz. Also "buy it now"d two Arrista figures of a fireman and engineer for the BFOC. They are made of pewter and should help add weight to the locomotive.

Do you think it will be okay to put them on with those glue dots? Will they harm the paint on the locomotive?

Tom thanks for the pics - It would be great if that could be fixed up again.

Nick - sounds like the building is almost done? Saw those pics of the painting, looks like you had some help!

Ngauger - I got totally ripped off on that trade-in. Last dollar that dealer will see from me. Don't want to start a Ford Vs Chevy fight  (it was FORD dealer!)

Doug M - beware of Soap Poisoning! Did you ever get to your layout today?

Good evening everyone. Quick stop by before bed. Had a whole day of rain today. We really needed it, but it did interfere with the filming schedule. I guess when we all prayed for rain, we forgot to tell God to make it at night on the days we were not shooting.

Tom, great photos. One idea: we have a Roundhouse museum in Savannah, GA. They have the art college that has a degree and some undergrad courses in restoration and antiquities. They have the students doing all the work to restore the roundhouse which frees a lot of money up for the restoration of the steam engines and the rest of the equipment. I believe they have a website that has the information. If you have a college out that way that has any type of classes involving restoration of old buildings, that would be a big help. Free labor and it is steady, unlike many projects, a lot of folks say they will, but never show up.

Hope everyone has a great night.
Dennis
