Good evening folks

I am just getting around to checking on things at 11:15 PM! It has been a busy couple of days. We hit the stores yesterday. We took in only one early Black Friday sale at a local sporting good stores to get my daughter a new basketball backboard set. We wondered the mall for a little while and picked up a few things. Today we spent the day raking leaves and starting the Christmas decorating. We got most of the outside lights up.

Of course all this work has meant no modeling time. Maybe I will get some in tomorrow.

I hope everybody has a good evening.

I have seen these threads as long as I have been here and I just now decided to check it out. Can anybody give ms an idea of what goes on here. Is it just to talk about anything? I notice alot of weather reports.

Welcome, Kevinkrey. I don't presume to speak for the group or the thread but we all seem to enjoy 'classic toy trains' or at least have an interest in model trains in common. We like to regularly check in and tell each other what is going on in life as well as layouts. Pull up a chair and join in!

For example, right now I'm rigging up a night-vision camera to keep an eye on my mailbox which was entirely disappeared last evening. Yes, I know that looks crazy in print. ;)

:D Good one - that's really booking man!

Welcome KevinKrey!

Doug - my buddy Jeff hooked up a digital camera with night vision to an old computer so it records to the harddrive. He's trying to figure out how to get it to only record when there is motion in the picture. He lives in a very old house (title search went back 150 years and they gave up) that backs on a gravel "alley" and someone stole his tackle box and a tool box from his boat.

John Baker, They are not worried about what you would do with any photos, but are worried about our local press getting a hand on photos that can be twisted in the story that went with them. We had a little run in with ABC news and some others after one of the tobacco lawyers decided to form a class action suit against some of our folks....was eventually thrown out of court after several million dollars to fight and still the impression left in people's minds....so you see, they are sensitive.

On this home front, had wonderful day without much to be said for the trains. We went shopping and I bought a micro screw driver set and a soldering station from radio shack. The soldering station is a type of digital set that you just punch in the number for the heat that you want. Will use that to do plenty of repair jobs soon. Then, we dropped the kids off at the baby sitter's and my bride and I went to see Beowolf. Good flick. Afterwards, we went to a Japanese restaurant and had some dinner. It was a nice date and now we are home with the kids and hoping to get some sleep.

Take care,
Dennis
It was so cold and miserable last night that I stayed in and took my medicine from a bottle (or three?). Arose at 0600, had a look at the overnight posts. Pity you don't live close Dennis, I've got all the modelers craft tools Xacto, Dremmel kit, Watch makers tools vices lathes, micro irons etc. you name it I have it. Can't use these things any more. Lack of space and Osteo-Arthritis in my hands have taken away a wonderful hobby. Must be depressed this AM as I am playing a Hank Williams disc. He died when I was just 15.
Dennis, forgive me please but I have no love for the tobacco interests,
I have contracted severe Arterial Degeneration due to 50 years of passive smoking. Yes I did smoke for a year or two in my late twenties, but as I was a racing cyclist its effect caused breathing problems and I quickly quit.
On a lighter note-taking my dear lady to Leeds today for lunch at a Fish and Chip Restaurant. Any of you guys coming to the UK on holiday must sample this Yorkshire dish.
Got the chance to take a pair of SD70s over Sandpatch last night, the new power supply for the RailDriver is great, will be buying another when Lionels inverter gets through.
All this talk of Christmas decoration! I trim up on the first day of Christmas and dismantle them after twelfth night which I have always been led to understand is the correct period, the commercial interests are stretching the season to stupid lengths here, I saw cards and wrapping paper for sale in Fleetwood in July-unbelievable! My local supermarket now has hot cross buns on sale.
On matters Lionel, I need to extend my loop of Fastrack by adding a LH and RH switch, a couple of uncouplers and six 10" Straights. I reckon this will be the largest I can fit into my flat.
Welcome Kevin.
Jim, Try adjusting the frame rate on the camera to say 5 a second this should extend the run time by a factor of five/2hrs becomes ten etc. There are plenty of cheap surveillance cameras around with PIR detectors that can do the job for around £30.00/$60.00 or less.

Good Morning............
It's a cold 19 degrees. Sun is coming up. Clear skies. Going up to 51 today with sunshine.
I have 6 more trees to decorate outside. Got 4 done yesterday. Look good. I will finish it up today. No time for trains again.
Everyone have a nice day,
Chuck

Good Morning Gents.

Stretched these curves out a bit more now that I have both extensions complete. This allows me to distance the portal from the upper level:

John, since Jeff's camera is saving to a HD he has plenty of room, the problem is this -- who wants to watch 24 hours of video of an alleyway? However, if it only "tapes" when there is motion, this would work a lot better. This might work well for Doug M though! Sounds like you are feeling better :thumb: Have a great luncheon! Do you ever eat the deep fried Mars bars? I saw this on a television show here in the States. Apparently a lot of the fish and chips places have take to battering candybars and throwing them in the frier.

MadHatter - I am sorry I won't be able to attend as eplanes make me esick, but best eregards! :)

Well, I've thought about it, why waste time with eplanes when I can bring you all over with an e-train??!?

 There's a reason my signature says: Take it easy...Take the train

Morning all. Welcome KevinK. Frank53, looking good there. Cold and rainy [but not enough to measure ]. T'storms tomorrow we hope. Wife is cooking as I haven't eaten since last night. No grits this AM. Got up too late and had to rush to Early Church and Sunday School. Maybe some more train time this afternoon. Big Boy running good. Unlike one forum [not CTT] who has a lot of the same guys "b----ing" over some failures. Hope all have a great day.

Jim,
Feeling fine now thanks after my F&C lunch which was great. A proper chippy only uses beef dripping (from Heelan Coos) for frying and it must not be contaminated with anything else. There are chippys run by Chinese and other foreigners that pretend to be what they are not, they will chuck anything into the Oil or Lard that they use (it tastes like paraffin) from pies to Mars Bars, absolutely revolting! I regret to say that the disgusting habit of deep frying pies/sweets/chocolate/candy was kicked off by our Scots cousins.
Mad Hatter,
The town of Stockport was the worlds principal manufacturer of hats for several hundred years before our oriental cousins took over (as they have with a lot of manufactured goods). Our Footy team (Stockport County) are known as 'The Hatters' Robinsons best mild is called 'Hatters Mild' The small vault in the Armoury is 'The Hatters Bar'.
Jim,
Not knowing precisely what your friend has, time lapse was my first thought, running play back at normal speed and pro-rata would permit a quick scan that can then be manouvered to expose the culprit. the obvious route is with the PIR, camera and IR lamp, which as I said should be available at reasonable cost.
In the morning, I shall be (on TrainSim) taking a trio of SD45s over Kicking Horse Pass with a 56 car manifest . Doe's this constitute an
e-train? Co's it's the best I can do at short notice.

Good afternoon, all!

Cold and damp in central Alabama today. U of Alabama lost to Auburn for 6th straight year last night - cause for rejoicing with part of our household (son and younger daughter) and grief for the rest (my wife, eldest daughter, and yours truly). Didn't have high expectations for Bama, so I wasn't too disappointed. At least it wasn't a blow-out.

The Christmas layout is a go! I'll use the same track plan as last year with a bit of change to the scenery and a couple of new buildings (Lemax pharmacy and diner). Hope to begin later this week. I'll post pics when it's coming along.

Back to work tomorrow after a week off. Hope everyone has a good day!

I thought this picture would fit the bill for my first official post on this thread. I stepped in from preparing the backyard for winter (the snowblower works! Yay!) and I sat at the computer and noticed this sunset. I dont like the city skyline but this was a great picture.
