Nice Job Ralph!

Deano, any plans for a GERN Industries Plant on your layout in the far future?

Slekjr, It's amazing how much coal a powerplant uses in one day, hm?

Here's my Advertisent-Free (Ignore my link) Photo Post.

Ok, went to check up on the Riverside Railroad today, and the first thing I saw was Riverside #1116 pulling out CN FA2 #6750 of the maitneance tracks.
Picture_0315.JPG
Although 6750 doesn't need help, it saves fuel when 1116 switches the larger engines around. Then all of a sudden, everyone heard a loud screeching, like metal on metal, sound, and we all went to investigate. This is what we encountered:
Picture_0319.JPG

(switching back to reality) I was running 4242 as usual, about to switch out the grain hoppers when the red covered hopper suddenly jumped the tracks.
(Switching back to story) We found 4242 coupled up to the NMRA hopper and the derailed resin covered hopper, with the Green cylindrical CNW hopper behind that. PRR GP9M #9912 was waiting in the hole with boxcars for 4242's train to pass.
Picture_0316.JPG

Closer inspection of the derilment area revealed that the coupler box for the resin covered hopper had completley fallen apart and lay in the area around the hopper:
Picture_0318.JPG

I can only summerize that the bottom of the coupler box fell off somehow and got run over by the trucks of the red hopper, causing the derailment. As per procedure, the unharmed cars must be cleared before crews can move in. Here BL2 1845 is hauling away most of the unharmed cars:
Picture_0317.JPG

The red hopper is currently in 'the works', and unless I can get the couplers to work again, it may become another showpeice:cry:

On a happier note, Keep the pics coming guys because
:needpics:
(I love this 'smiley'!)

Great story CNWman, a real page turner, if there wer pages that is! I asume that car is an Athearn, I have the same problem with a few. Once the metal coubler bends it becomes a real pain, but work with it and it should be fine.

Thanks! You are corect that it is an Athearn, but as for metal coupler, do you mean the metal coupler plate? The plate itself isn't the problem, it's the tabs on the body that hold the plate on that's the problem, one of them has been chiped away by age and is barely useable. Glue might work though. I'm just thankfull that the body itself isn't going to :curse::curse::curse::curse: in a handbasket like it was when I got this thing.

Chessie- great shot!:thumb: Where's GP50 though? Or was it GM50? I can't rememberwall1:rolleyes::mrgreen:

Yea, sorry I do mean the plate cover, if it is broke and not just bent there might be a problem. Glue would solve the problem but then the coupler would be mighty hard to replace, maybe a small piece of tape? But they are nice hoppers so, it might be worth working on it and giving it a little TLC.

Another great start to this week's thread! :thumb::thumb:

Some of you may recall my thread "Incident at Indian Line...", the unfinished tale of an extra train, a green fireman, and the Cruikshank boys' destroyed Model T pick-up. Rumours persisted in the area that when the railroad cleaned up the wreckage, it was dumped into the Maitland River, in order to cover up the incident. However, recent pictures discovered in a pre-dawn raid on Barney Secord's Victorian mansion on Broad St. turned up these hitherto unseen photos.
The photos clearly show the wreckage of the vehicle in a gondola underneath the Lowbanks shop crane.

It was also widely rumoured that the railroad had secured a similar vehicle, then rebuilt it to replace the destroyed original, all in exchange for the Cruikshanks' silence about the incident.
Here's a later photo of a Model T pick-up in remarkably pristine condition, with Rex Cruikshank reportedly at the wheel.

Other than the photos, nothing untoward was discovered in the raid, and Mr. Secord was released from custody.

If the cover plate isn't broken, simply re-bend the sides, using pliers, to a 90 degree angle, then carefully press it into place. If there's any tab left at all, this should hold it in place. If the cover plate is broken, any good hobbyshop should have replacements readily available.

Great Pics and story Wayne! That Mr Secord seems to be one slippery fellow. Makes you wonder what he's going to be up to next.....

Anyway here's my contribution, found on an old roll of film from last year:

The plate itself isn't the problem, in fact, it's flawless. the tabs on the sides of the molded on coupler box are the problem-one of them is too small. I can get the plate to hold on, but then the couplers become too low to clear my switches, and I'm using Kadees msotly. My current plan to fix this thing is to replace the couplers with other ones that have NO coupler hose thingies from my other cars. The first knuckle couplers on this thing actualy came from two other cars I have, the CNW and orange reefers. The reefers got horn hooks instead and now allow me to run my BAR reefer withoiut problem (the BAR reefer is truck-mounted horn hooks)
kevinkrey-That's a good Idea! I'll try that:thumb:

Terrific contributions everyone! Miles, I really like that faded checkerboard pattern on the grain elevator. Wayne, there's nothing like photo journalism to uncover conspiracies! :)
