Try Gary Katz Online. No plans but lots of great shots inside a steam powered sawmill with detail shots of machinary and controls.

That is perhaps one of the most inspiring group of photos I've seen. I started leaning towards doing simply a mining operation, but now... I'm not so sure. Hey, bigsteel, I thought I'd share this with you too:

Chris Comport: Custom Model Building

If you look through the photos, you see the scratchbuilt sawmill. Kinda cartoony in one sense, but I really like how it fits more organically into the scene, and how it looks overall. I might have to borrow this design and build something like it.

Also: if anyone else has any other piccies of this layout, esp. the plan, please post them. I'd like to see the other side, where he has some log loading areas, but nothing is posted.

I'm starting to realize that what I want out there... I just can't find. So, I'm going to have to scratchbuild my mine and my mill.

Good luck and good progress!

p.s. I'm not really just following you around, and commenting on your stuff, though you give me good reason too! :) I'm going to be asking for your opinions shortly.

man inqiztr that website was amazing! his modeling is fantastic :thumb:,and your right, thats sawmill is kinds funky, almost like in reality that sawmill construction would never work ,but good looking hands down .
and about your mill, the scratchbuilding is 80% of the fun,the 20% is building a layout around it all .so thanks for the comments nd encouragement on my layout design and good luck on your venture :thumb:.

and a responding p.s thanks again for the compliments ,I'm still FAR away from the fantastic modeling sumpter, shamus, etc have on here.so fire away on those questions, queries and ponderings, everyone is here to help .--josh

I am building a logging N-Trak module.I found all my kits and info from
Republic Locomotive Works web site. They have nice detail kits and lots of things to do with logging. The kits are expensive but lots of detail. Now I am working on the Planing Shed and it looks good.
