Hello all,

Its been awhile since I posted anything on this forum. Heres whats been going on lately. I managed to build my 12'X14' shed and....scratch build the largest structure on DRSC. A BOF in HO,didn't take but a month and a half to build. Here are a few pictures of the new building.

It is somewhat compressed ,but not much. The BOF measures 4' long X 4' wide X 3' high. With service trackage running through it.

Doesn'
t seem like the pictures show wants to work tonight.

Hey Josh,

Thanks for the kind words. I've been building this monster whenever I got the chance. Right now I'm working on both the walthers EAF & rolling mill structures.Going to mate them together for a larger melt shop.

The BOF was pretty straight forward build. Not to hard at all.Was much easier than I first thought.

I was thinking of making kits for sale of this same BOF.Trouble is it isn't that compress and most likely wouldn't fit on most folks layout.

Now that its 95% completed it wouldn't be hard to take measurements for kits.

the melt shop is really one im lokign forawrd too, would that make it something like 4,5 even 6 ft long!?!? when i start building my mill ill come prepered with alot of styrene and cardboard, all in all it shouldnt be that hard, just a lot of 90' and 45' angles.
as for the kits,it would be nice but only if your a devoted steel mill modeler,my BOF is only going to be backdrop with 2 tracks and is 29in by 6in by 30in.and its at its max! cant wait to see the updates!--josh

Remember...it's for fun!
Patrick,

Josh,

My melt shop won't be that big. I just used both walthers EAF & rolling mill kits together. A somewhat small melt shop, but if I need to I can make it a whole lot larger.

I've thought of scratch building both a caster building and a forge shop. Inside the caster,I have a schematic of a Demag ladle turndish thinking of making this.

The forge shop is pretty straight forward building.

Bigsteel,

If you want to make structures this size and have them fairly square.Try using corrugated plastic signs....thats what I used to build 95% of the BOF structure. The rest of the structure is covered in projection screen TV covering, looks like HO scale sheet metal siding.

So you say you want to make a large melt shop...hmmmmm. Let me see what I can come up with regarding some sort of drawing. What size you looking for ?

Josh,

Do you want a commpressed drawing of a BOF at 25.5 wide or do you want a electric melt shop about the same size ?

The melt shop is what I'm talking about. Right now my walthers kits when mated are about..??? Dunno I'll have to measure the structure once set in place.

I can make a templete of both structures and you can build the same one I have. That prouably easier than making a drawing. If this is whatcha want e-mail me off forum and we can exchange addresses.

I'll measure the EAF melt shop when I get home

if its possible i would like the drawings of the BOF,you dont have to compress them if you dont want, ill have to adjust here and there anyway.drawings of the melt shop would also help alot but it would probably be a diorama off he layout s theres no more room on the layout itself.
the only problem i really have is i have no idea how these look on the inside or the basic constuction of them.i've had no luck finding pics of the inside of any of the structures.my buildings will be open and i cant find any good pics of the machinery either.there wasnt one pic of the BOF itslef.so that part will just have to come later.thanks.--josh

I havent been up to much at all lately. Im selling my kitbashed rolling mills and the Blast Furnace. My new plan will have 3 Rolling Mills and 2 Blast Furnaces kitbashed together :thumb: :thumb:  Cuz BIGGER is ALWAYS better

Heres the new plan:

admgrain2.jpg

This fits on my old HO scale layout. This is an N scale Steel Mill

Consists of 2 Blast Furnaces, 3 Rolling Mills, 1 Coke Oven, 1 Electric Furnace, and 4 Warehouses to be built as one to house finished steel. Also has a Overhead crane and 2 Coal Mines. And 2 ADM Grain Elevators thrown in there too hahaha. Over 55 #7 turnouts on this one
