This thread seems to have picked up a little better then the last couple weeks WPF threads, GLAD TO SEE IT!:thumb::mrgreen: its like the "trackside photo's" section in Model RailRoader...ONLY BETTER!:thumb::mrgreen:

Deano, it’s really good that your layout have so many grade crossings – I love these shots.
THANKS KURT!!! I love taking pics at grade crossings(as you folks can tell:eek:ops:). for many of us, our first experience with trains was at a grade crossing:winki: . its funny, when friends get stuck at a grade crossing they complain, but every grade crossing i don't get stuck at, i complain:119: . (BTW Kurt, the grade crossing shots you posted are SLAP FANTASTIC!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb::mrgreen: )

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS....

Here's two pics of the F7 dad picked up at the show:thumb: .

Can you tell me anything about that pattern that seems to resemble windows running down the entire length of the locomotive just under the roofline?

Tom, that is the most fantastic project I have seen! I wouldn't even want to think about the number of hours you must have devoted to that. Obviously, it was time well spent, because the end result is phenomenal!

That grillwork is usually stainless steel, and is to cover-up and protect the various air intakes located behind it.
This first photo shows a unit with the grill in place:

Behind the grill are air intakes similar to the ones on this unit:

Some roads applied them as after-market add-ons, others ordered them on new units, and some didn't use them at all.

TrainNut:wav: , thats "vents", very typical on F units:winki: .

Chalk that up as another dumb question then (I've asked a few). Well crud... I'm familiar with the vents down the sides, it just looked like it resembled something other than wire mesh and my first guess was that it could have been a special adaptation such as windows.

Beautiful E-units!

Unfortuneately, my locomotives haven't gotten much more beautiful. It seems the Penn Central is rolling by, and it's equipment is long overdue for the shops.

Penn Central 4435 rumbles down the tracks with its cooling fans blowing. the E44 appears to be having a mid life crisis involving the some of its windows. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

As you can see, the catenary will be going up soon, atleast in this corner of the layout. I've finally figured the trick to making nice clean but sturdy solder joints. I just need some more supplies. I will probably have it up sometime late december in this corner. I'm trying to find more the the right sized wire to use, but i'm having a tough time measuring it.

The Brass E44 is my newest locmotive, and it needs some work to, but i'll make it great just like my other models.

Camera settings

Here's a picture...I'm trying to figure out the best setting for close up detail of my Nscale engines/cars/layout - but far enough away for some depth of field. This is a KCS SD60 - freshly weathered a bit based on pictures of similar KCS SD60 units. The truck weathering didn't come out at all - but the shell weathering is shown, but it actually darker than pictured here. Seems like all the dark detailing I painstakenly did is washed out by the lighting. All the weathering was accomplished with chaulks. To me, you lose the weathering detail and the picture doesn't "feel" real. I'm not sure if it's the lighting (mixture of natural and overhead incandescent) or camera settings.
Whadda think?

Speaking as a KCS nut, I like it. The weathering is subtle, just as would be found on many KCS units. All to often I see models that are overly weathered, making the unit look like it's two steps from the scrap heap. Good job.

Well I made it to the railroad park in Scottsdale this Saturday. I had a nice chat with one of the guys in the O scale club then I took pictures of the steam engine.

Remember...it's for fun!
Guys, 4435 is obviously the victim of some trackside rock throwing vandals.
GEC, you may wish to consider installing safety screens for your crew on those side windows!

LOL, that reminds me of my sister. She nailed an NJT ALP44 and an Acela Express one day with some rocks, just to annoy me:cry:. no amount of me warning the severity of the issue seemed to make a dent in her mind. I figure we were lucky no railroad police showed up, since were we stopped by the tracks getting directions. a week later, we heard the Acelas were having break problems andhad to be pulled from service.

I also need to add those "warning- High voltage power line" signs to! the signs are there, but the decals are not.
