Scratchbuilt factory

It sounds like it won't dominate your layout, so It'll be cool place of interest. It seems like almost anything on a model railroad needs to be compressed. An HO Scale model of Cincinnati Union Terminal...just the main building...would fill most layout rooms. I like Colorado narrow gauges in part since there aren't many buildings and the trains can be scale length.

Actualy, there's an S scale Union Terminal in the Cincinnati in Motion exhibit, and it's not that big, actualy. The actual yard behind Union is what would dominate I think.

That is a pretty cool exhibit.

I knew a couple people at the Cincinnati Railroad Club whom were building models of the terminal...amazing how big it would need to be.

Great looking beginning Val. The weathering looks really good.
Here in Kelowna our city didn't have the large factories or mills that you guys have back east. What we did have were large fruit packing houses. Here too most have been torn down to make way for newer buildings except the old original packing house that houses the Kelowna orchard museum which, in turn, is the home of the model railroad club that I belong to.

Thanks Gary, Kevin and Glen! I've set this project aside for the time being since my Walther's modulars arrived to allow me to complete another in-progress building.

Looks good, Val! The main reason my home switching layout will be L A Junction is the plethora of old masonry industrial in the City of Commerce. Of course the other reason is the Cf-7'sand no stack trains or container cars of any kind on the LAJ.

Very Nice Val.......(as all of your work is!! )

IMHO it is far more difficult to capture the look of a real building as a scratchbuilt model than it is to build a fantasy building.
Youve got a great start....I look forward to seeing this scene complete & in display mode!!

Robber Baroness's have far too much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Good to see you Jimmy. You are right about that toilet roll thing. The more time you have, the less time you seem to have to get the things done that you want and like to do.

We hope to see more of you, keep us posted on what you're doing.

Good to see you Jimmy - it's been awhile. Have to say that even hearing the name Georgetown still brings a little lump to my throat.

I love waterfront scenes and will sure be looking forward to yours.

Hi Val, you are doing a great job on that building. Please keep us up to date, I would like to see more of that. I too remember when it was a full size structure in Toronto.

Hi, Val. Had been following your thread for some time, but just stumbled across article in June 2003 RMC on the Massey-Harris Market St. plant in Brantford. Have you seen this reference and would such info be helpful ? Bob C.

Bob,

That article (and it's partner) was written by a friend of mine in the www.hotrak.ca modular club. I sent a copy to Val when I saw it; I am pretty sure she still has it...! ;)

In the meantime, Ben (the author) has begun work on the modules he outlined in the article, although they follow quite a different plan than the one he published.

Thanks, Andrew ! Amazing what you can find when you're not really looking. Thought Val had probably seen it, but... , and thanks to your friend (B.V.V.) for a thorough and enlightening piece (in spite of my delay in getting to it). :eek:ops: Bob C.
