Remember That 1/6th Scale German Railroad?

Remember those British guys that model that German military railroad train complete withall the extras such as tanks, artillery and troops in 1/6th scale? Well, somebody just went them one better:

Axis History Forum :: 1/6th Scale Dora Rail gun

But it is a model; it is on a railroad, and it's still 1/6th scale...:thumb:

Kind of makes garden scale railroading look a tad weak, if you know what I mean.

Agreed lets see "the experts" try to get it around a 2' radius curve. Even I would need 80' radius curves to even think about it, my 1/32 railgun needs 10' radius, will just do 8' slowly but the flanges try to climb the rails.

That is something to think about, as the engineers assigned to this gun had to lay two curved parallel trackes to serve as the traverse. Be interesting to know what their standard radius was.

I will try to decypher the german text in my "eisenbahngeschutz" book, it shows a transverse track but I do not recall any radius given, nor do the plans of the Dora.
The K5e used a curved track when available, it saved the engineers setting up the vogel turntable

I have a book specifically on the Dora Gerat; it does not specify the curve - merely that one was built to enable traverse. since the gun was mnounted on dual electric locomotives built into the chassis, it must have been a very gentle curve.

Krupp designed a loco to move the Dora two small diseasals A-B units, into a firing posn.
Steam locos were used to transport the gun to the assembly point, they even towed the diseasals*.
But the Dora had no motive power of its own, save the loading elevating mechs etc.

re the curves each "pad" of the Dora had 2 wagons of 5 axles able to swivel independantly of each other so in actual fact it could have been able to use a standard radius curve. re about a 6' radius gauge 1
*Can you tell I like steam more than diesel power!

That's the same group that has the original 1/6 model RR. The owner's name is Peter Shaw and Kampfgruppe von Abt is the name of the group that he belongs to in England.

That's the most impressive model I've ever seen!!

Would either of you know a source from which I might buy a three view plan of a WWII Henschel 600mm gauge 0-4-0 locomotive? I "need" to build a 1:35 scale model of the aforementioned locomotive. My friends are IPMS 1:35 scale military modelling types and I "offered" to provide animation for their spring displays via the Henschel.

I'm asking around, someone will know who or where drawings reside, HO trackwork & running gear?

Thanks hmas. Yes HO track and gear theoretically in 1:35 scale works out to be 22.76" or near 600mm gauge.
