Building the Walthers Magic Pan Bakery Module

Hi Guys, I had an extra piece of plywood laying under my bed and I thought hey thats prolly a good size for a nice lil one industry module. Well it was, I ripped the Magic Pan Bakery Complex off my layout and decided to make it a new home

Now there is a big hole on my layout where the complex was, gee wonder what ill build there next? Hmmm just have to wait and see.

Anyways, here is the progress so far on the module

Weathered_Trains_7_003.jpg

Magic Pan Yard. The Yard is curently beeing paved at the moment. I had to lay extra stripes of paving tape so the Smooth-It spreader was able to reach accross to touch both sides of paving tape. Still have to finish off the right hand side, includeing adding in another crossing on the far right.

Magic Pan has a Guard Gate. The complex will also have chain-link fence running along the front of the complex.

Magic Pan Warehouse and Truck Docks. There also 2 docks for boxcars on the far right of the building, hence the reason for the track on the far left (currently covered in blue masking tape lol)

The crossings in the Magic Pan Complex.

Magic Pan's Silos, served by 2 tracks, one on either side of the silos complete with Covered Hopper unloading racks (the one closest to you is under the masking tape but you can see the one on the right sticking out of the back of the masking tape).

Magic Pans Office complete with bumping post outside lol

All the roads need to be sanded and then I am going to apply a second light coat of Smooth-It to smoothen them even further. The Crossings also need the flangeways dug out, that will come later with an exacto knife.

More pics to come, stay tuned

Finished the roads and yard and set things up for some pics. Magic Pan Bakery will be a VERY busy complex with tons of truck traffic, covered hoppers and boxcars being moved around.

Now I need to lightly sand some spots of the roads and the yard, paint it grey, weather it. I also need to cut the flangeways out on the crossings. Then I will ballasy the track and add some ground cover and dirt to the area. Stay Tuned

Remember...it's for fun!
I LIKE it!! It looks busy and definitely in need of rail traffic. The guard shack at the entrance is a nice detail. Nice smooth looking road and parking areas. Very neat!

WOW Josh, you’re really busy. Your new module looks great :thumb:.

Thanks Kurt!! I am pretty busy arnt I lol, Lets see, Ive done a Photo Diorama, weathered a few more trailers and now building a module, and all in 3 weeks!! hehehehe

Speaking of my Photo Diorama, I need to take pics of it and post them, its about 99% done now, I had to finish it without taking anymore progress pics cause I didnt have a camera to use wall1 so the pictures I post hopefully soon will be of the completed Diorama :eek:ops:

Thanks Ralph!!! Yup, there be plenty of truck and rail traffic to this building lol. Boxcars and maybe a flat bringing in new machinery of some sort on the far right track and then 54' Covered hoppers on the left tracks

I thought the guard shack would add a lil more character to the scene, Im also going to add a chain-link fence in along the front of the yard where the entrance is.

I was able to get such a smooth finish by laying down a coat of smooth-it and letting sem-dry for about an hour and a half and then going back over it with a putty knife to fill in dents and air bubbles and what ever else didnt get filled in on the original paving

Josh, I noticed in a couple of the pics, that you don't have cement between the rails in a few spots, is this going to be filled in, or do you have other plans?

Thanks Combat!!!

I installed some piping running from the Silo Building into the warehouse. I also added some pipes that come from the warehouse and go into an "underground storage tank" if you will lol. Got the Warehouse, Office, Guard Shack Buildings, and 2 of the 3 Bumping Posts glued in place now. Here are some pics

Thanks Gary, I LOVE all the trucks too hehehehehe

hahaha you wanna buy it from me when im done? hahahahaha No seriously, this is a great building from the Walthers Cornerstone series and I highly recomend getting one if you want a nice medium sized industry on your layout. Your layout is already AWESOME, dont know if you have anymore room but if you do and your looking for something else to get, I think this one is good!! Its really easy to build to and you can position doors and docls where you want :thumb: :thumb:
