Yes, we did hit 111 yesterday and so the record now stands at 30 days of 110 or over. Today may make that 31, and push us into the books as the hottest summer on record. But then they say we're in for a cold spell, back down to the 104 range. Wow!!!! can't wait, just can't wait.  I think it's getting time to break out the woollies.... brrrrrr.

In that link you posted above, "Phoenix has not come close this year to its all-time high of 122 degrees, set in 1990."
That all depends on where your at! I keep an eye on my in car thermometer on my way to and from my boys school. The last couple of days up and down the interstate near Dunlap, it's been 120. I kid you not.
Here... proof. The first one is a little hard to make out but you can indeed see that it says 120.
The second one is a lot clearer but it cooled off 2 degrees by the time I got off the interstate and was backing into my back yard.

Yes, my little one is zoning out in front of the TV.
I pulled up all the track and ballast that I needed to and am now trying to fix the turnouts that I took off. Got to order new turnouts and flex track today...
Don, how about a nice, clear, quality picture or two of your progress? Better yet, how 'bout updating your layout thread? If you don't I may be forced to come over there and see what you've been up to!

I don't need proof, I was coming down Bell Rd. a few weeks ago and it showed it was 122 out, although the high for the day at the Phoenix Airport was only 116.

If you do come over, be prepared to help because right now all I have is a mess. I have the turnouts cleaned up nicely, but I'm still having problems with them and I waited too long because now I find that Standard Hobbies is out of Atlas RH #4, so I'm hoping I can get by with #6's, or I'll have to wait since they are the cheapest around for Atlas track.

Afternoon all. Had to go to Dr's Office this AM. More spots on hand and rams to remove. Only one cut out and others frozen. Got back and went to pond. Sat on spillway bridge and relaxed. Actually comfortable in the shade and a breeze. No beaver activity. Looked around the pond through scope. Finally saw something floating around. Went by on the way out and it was Mr. beaver I shot at about 75 yards with .17HMR yesterday afternoon. No signs of partner. Maybe it left [I doubt it]. Actually no signs of any beaver activity since I left yesterday PM. That is strange as they love to cut trees at night. Got all of the big room track down and wired. Ran engines up the grade [as big room is 3 layers of Soundstop and back room is no layers] with cars. Ran across the drop down and worked great. Now to move stored trains from back room and pull track up. Hope this does not take as long. Going to only use one layer of Soundstop in back room. Have a great holiday.

Big thing on water in the desert on TV last night. Phoenix has over 1 millon people and the use of pavement and etc has raised the temps during the day and thus the nights stay warmer. Also A/C puts off heat so temps stay up. They did tell of the record temp of 122. Also all the irrigation has raised the humidity.

There was speculation by some that all our swimming pools contributed to a higher humidity, but as you point out, irrigation brought that to us years ago. Phoenix is indeed in the desert, but because of irrigation that goes back to the HoHokum Indians, much of the area used to be farmland. Some of our irrigation canals still follow those first dug by the Hookums a few hundred years ago. Irrigated farmland becomes housing developments with swimming pools and very little grass, so it's an even trade when it comes to water use.

I was here that day it reached 122 and I just remember the asphalt parking lot giving way to my shoes as I walked to my car. I've always said, once it gets over 115 you really can't tell the difference anyway. It's just blasted hot and you find A/C where and when ever you can.

A while back, I had a dark blue vehicle with a black interior and for kicks I put an oven thermometer inside of it while I went inside the mall for a couple hours. When I came back out, the temp inside the car was well clear of 140. Everything gets kind of soft and mushy at that temperature... steering wheel, gear shift... heck, just putting on your seatbelt without getting burned can become a challenge. The plus side is that we can usually wear shorts all the way through December!

Morning all, off to the Rollag Threshermans tractor show. They are supposed to have a couple of steam shovels that still run + two steam trains on grounds.

Have a great weekend!

You may be able to, but have you ever seen my legs? Just along those same lines though, my last two articles in one of the columns I write are about the heat here. This is a quote from the August article:
[FONT=&quot]Unusual things happen around here when it gets this hot. Seems to me that some people think that the hotter it is, the less clothes they need to put on. I wish some of them would rethink that theory. I can think of thousands of things I’d rather be doing then standing in line at Wal-Mart behind 300 pounds of bare jiggling cellulite in flip-flops. Another down side is, you have to go to Dr like I did yesterday and had little "chunks" cut out of your hands and spots frozen all over your arms, hands, legs, face and ears. Wear sunscreen!!!!!

I got a new toy today and I'm still learning how to use it.
Well since this picture is a tad bigger than your previous pictures does that mean that you wore the other camera out already and have gotten an even newer one? Also, why in the world does your locomotive have the number 666 on it?!
