Great layout

:thumb:

I am real new to this forum thing- thanks for your response and I will follow your progress as I figure out how to build my new one. I used the free Atlas program to design my layout.

Thanks

So I've been off studying how to paint back drops for the past month, this like other differnet subjects pertaining to my layout is just another just as important part and I won't be happy until I get it just right and if I'm not happy with the results will simply start over with a fresh coat of blue.
This first pic is my practice run on a 4x8 sheet of plaster stuff you use for sandwich boards.

The next pics are left to right perimeter pics which I plan very shortly to attempt mountains all the way around. Some areas will have simple rolling hills well others have high mountains with hilites of snow. Closest scenery being darker and showing more detail of course.

Wow very cool. I like what you have done so far. I don't have walls I can paint [mine is in the living room] backgrounds on. Mostly just a good excuse not to paint as I kind of suck in that area LOL.
Looking good Lynn.

Tankster Welcome to our little nut house.
Ask a lot of questions and enjoy. Some of us even think we know what we are talking about LOL :)

Here's as far as I've gotten around the room starting from the left side to around the corner and continueing onward.

And here's an over all pic from a few steps back

I'm thinking maybe to not paint in trees for two reasons one is I stink at it and two as my wife suggested, I will be building up the tree line at the base of the mountains with small trees and secondary growth stuffage

Ok I am convinced you are going to do my backgrounds when you [if you] ever come over here [nice of me to inform you of that eh? LOL]. However trying to convince my sweetie that we need mountains on the living room walls might be a tad ...er ...um difficult LOL.

Very nice work there Lynn. keep it up. :)

Here's a bit of whats been going on for past while as you can see most of the tree line has been planted along the ridge of the mountain.I've been trying to work from way back and come forward.

Here's a couple pics where I built the road and added a small scenery divider for Stuffies Brewery. For the hill I just stuck a piece of 2x4 down covered it with ground goop and earth and planted grass, I will be planting trees real soon to further devide up the scenery here as well as putting up a fence.

This pics a bit scarey its the shelf for the command station and I'm using the old DC power pack to power all the stationary decoders

So don't nobody say I haven't been doing nothing . :D

Hey Lynn, any chance of making the pictures bigger? I like them and all, but they are a bit small considering all the detail you have in them. As they are hosted by image shack the size should be malleable I would think.

Anyhow, good stuff just the same. :)

Thanks guys , I use to be able to get big pics , all I'd have to do is click on the image and it would go twice as big and then clicking again would go even bigger , I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. wall1

Naz um duh I know about the thumbnails. It is just that the pics they go to are kind of small is all.

I have a fast connection and so i don't mind big pics. I prefer big pics actually.
Even a one megapixel camera like I have can make a large picture for a typical monitor screen.

Lynn, it might be the place that holds your pictures. maybe they resize them on you. I am not sure.

Anyhow, either way you are doing a good job, keep it up :)

um duh I know you know what a thumbnail does....I thought it wasn't working for you, and perhaps, others trying to view the pics.

The layout is looking great!! I love the mountain ranges and backdrops. :thumb:

btw, Did I spy a Spectrum 2-6-6-2 in one of your pics? I've been wanting to get one. Is it a good runner?

So finally that time of year again when I can enjoy this great hobby. I had decided to take the mountain away to make room for the engine service area and also add a bit of a level for more non-rail serviced industries, which I will be building very soon, just waiting on my xmas present , pretty much all of Scott Mason's DVD's including the new layout dvd.I'm thinking the wall on the side of the hill can be wood retaining walls or stone castings, kinda undecided. I've moved the engine area buildings around many times and I think I've found the combintion that works best. I'm going to be running a beaten up dirt road from the new upper level along the wall and across an old bridge. As you can see I got the Walthers Wood coal Tower put together as well, yet to be beaten up and weathered. Ground Goop is going to be put to good use in this new area.
So any and all suggestions are more than welcomed.
