Hey everyone:wave:
School started yesterday, and that's why I havent been able to post. You would not beleive how heavy my pack is from all the books I have to carry. Lucky I get some fun classes like CAD classes. Say, anyone need heat? It has been SO hot that records are being broken! Plus half the schools in my district are cutting some classes for tomorow because of the heat and that the AC systems aren't working (my school is fully functional, however:twisted::p) However, my sister gets to miss school because of that because she stays in modular rooms most of the time. On the plus side, I mentioned Model Railroading as a hobby of mine in Honors English (I'm in all honors:mrgreen:), and my English teacher was very interested in that, so that was cool.

For my current projects, Prarie Star Milling Co. has been weathered to perfection on the roofs, but the walls need to be aged. My other project, however, Riverside #1116, has been custom painted and is looking spiffy. Now it needs wording and numbers:p Anyone know a good place to order decal sheets for engines? I'll post pics later.

Cheers,
CNWman

CNWman, I am glad you think the CAD class is fun.:thumb: I have been teaching CAD for for several years now. You being a student, do you think my students would enjoy designing HO scale buildings and making scale models of them in my Architectural CAD class? I have been giving them a garage to design for me and build a model of the garage , but I just built it this spring and summer so I need a new project for them. The garage is going to be the home of my layout.

Good question ceadarcreekrr, I know I would:mrgreen:sign1. I think your students would probably like making them. There are instances that i've heard of that students make the drawings and then build a scale model of what they drew, so in this case they are designing and building the full size model, which sounds like fun. Maybe you could have them design railroad-related buildings, like a single-stall engine shed or a small town station. You aren't the first teacher to try to put model railroading and engineering classes together. In fact, a local university teacher is having his classes dividing into groups and then each group is to design and build an entire 4-section model layout!

hey cadareedrr,

Wouldn't doing a drawing full scale than making the scale in Paper Space to what ever scale you want?

Morning all. Coffee sure is good this AM. Crashed about 1 AM EDT. Slept like a log. Time to get ready for Sunday School. Got the last big section of Soundstop down on layout in big room. Next is two little sections [including the dropdown]. Then rewire. After all of that, move into back room [which is easy and should go fast]. Got to meet with Div. of Water Quality for Town tomorrow so day is messed up. Hope all have a great week. Later.

Wow the dog days of summer are here for the first time. Let me tell you I sure and the heck don’t miss all this high heat with high humidity. Yesterday finally caught up to me and I paid for over working. For some reason this type of weather just nails me with my asthma. I’m one of those that do a lot better with the cold.

I have been really busy and yesterday we got the last of the potatoes out of the ground. My oldest daughter was a trooper since potatoes is still a manual process around here. She likes shuttling the truck between the storage buildings and the fields. She will be 16 in a few months but has been driving since she was about 12. The harvest is about 30% off due to the dry summer during the peak of the growing season. The sweet corn was basically a total write off due to the storm a few weeks back. My daughters managed to savage a little but the crop lost was about 90%.

My 20-year-old Sears dehumidifier finally died. I’m not sure what happen but it appeared to over heat and melted a few wires. My wife said she heard it make weird noises Friday night but didn’t check on it. I’m lucky it didn’t start a fire. Well at least that is an excuse to got to Lowes. I needed a new one anyway because since this one is in the basement I need one that can handle colder temperatures.

I’m going to hate to see the electric bill come in with three air conditioners running 24 hrs a day right now. I really shouldn’t complain because this is the worst we really have had it with the heat and humidity.

Today: Isolated showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thanks for the great ideas, I think we will go to the local railroad museum if I remember right there were a lot of blueprints in boxes they might get some ideas from. I don't have the class until second term but pictures will be posted of the results. The city was founded by the B&O and the schools nickname is Railroaders so the the project should fit. Maybe I will find some space in my classroom for small layout. You never know it might result in a future model railroader or two.

No problem:thumb: That is some neat history, though, with the school being nicknamed' raliroaders' and the town itself founded by the B&O. In that case, don't stop with the layout in the classroom, you should start a model railroading club if you can! That way you can introduce the hobby to students and have a model layout in the class. But wait, theres more! If you have your town on the layout during the time of the B&O, then the layout can also illustrate the importance of the Baltimore and Ohio to history students who want to know more about the town's history!

Finally got wife to go with me to see the Bourne Ultimatum. ITS A MUST. You need to see the other two, if you haven't, before you go. Wife just saw the first two on TV this month. She said it was one of the best movies she has ever seen. You will definitely not go back for popcorn refills [our super tubs come with refills] nor will you go "pee". If you do, you will miss a lot. From the minute the movie starts to the end. James Bond and Indiana Jones can not compete. They say this is the last one. Wife says, "No."
Hot!! Thunder in the distance. Black clouds in the horizion. Please rain!!!!!!!!

Good morning folks

It was a hot and humid weekend. Temperatures were near 100 F on Saturday and Sunday was in the high 80’s. Today the humidity seems to be less and the high is expected to be 84 F. It was 68 F when I left the house this morning.

We had a busy weekend with my son having two football games. In the first on Saturday in the brutal heat his team the Drexel Hill Raiders Midget JV Silver team defeated the Haverford Fords 13-0. In the second game on Sunday the Drexel Hill Raiders Midget JV Black defeated Haverford 6-0. He played both games because the coaches have not broken the Midget JV team into the two teams. That will happen this week. We also had to do some grocery shopping and I had to do yardwork. The kids got a guinea pig. They saved up their allowances to buy the cage and all the necessary accessories. The guinea pig they chose was from a rescue. They made mom and dad proud because they could have gotten a “new” one or adopt a homeless one and they went with the homeless one.

With everything else going on I had little time for modeling. I did put some things away and clear the work bench some. I chose my next project. I am going to weather some cylindrical hoppers and some coal hoppers.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning everyone and hi. Been kinda busy with 2 new grand daughters! Not twins, one is 6 weeks and the other 3 weeks. I have gotten a little fishing in. Finished up my advanced certs for scuba, been raising pigs and steers for our own meat. The garden wasn't too good this year, too dry and in to late. Still keeping my old Wheel Horse tractors busy though with tilling and mowing. Started shopping for a farm tractor and bailer....and still working on the house. Going to have ehlp with that soon. Our youngest son is done with his Navy hitch on the 7th and will be home for a few months before going to school.

The old boat I got and re did has been great, just been too busy to do much work on it.

Our downs grandson had to have surgery again in July. Thats one tough little guy and he has bounced right back from it.

Have a great week everyone!

Rick

Out AZ way
Rick, good to see that your grandson is so resilient. We'll say a special prayer for him...

As far as rain here goes, we had a whole .08 inches a few days ago even though they said that we'd feel the remnants of hurricane Dean. I don't know why they call weather forecasting a science, it's just a guessing game that they brag about when they're correct and make excuses when they're not.

As far as the heat, well, we didn't break the record last week, we are still at 27 days of 110 degrees or more for the year, but we have a chance this week since there are three days that they are forecasting at least 110. Yeah, sure..........
