Back from vacation..!!! Which is why I wasn't around all last week..!!:mrgreen:

Took some great train pictures, pictures of the "kids" and grandson...
And then....:yep:

Lost the camera...wall1

So I'll have to russle up some cash to get a new one...A bigger one so it doesn't get lost..!!
Maybe that's what I get for asking if the camera was dirty....hamr

Steve is still doing the excellent work we all know him for....Keep it up..!!

I have not been able to spent much time modeling, but just to show you all that I haven't completely been goofing off...I offer these couple of pics of the kit-bash:

I decided to get some pieces glued together before I painted because I did not trust the pieces to all fit together correctly and also to help me cut the bases to the exact size needed. I really had to do some tweeking to get a proper and square fit. I will not go in to detail about what I cut because the link I provided earlier, explains it all.

I did make one change however, and that was to flip-flop the office wall and the wall with the conveyor to the slack loader. Because of the way I must place it on the layout, I had to do this to get the office in the front and the loader in the rear of the building.......I'll show the difference after I get some finished pics.

I have some more cutting to do and then, of course, paint.

I'll keep plugging away

I have not been away due to my golfing (or goofing around either). The wife and I put our house on the market on Saturday. I have spent the past few months getting ready to sell.

I think I have given the link before, but you should go and check out Virginia Tech's Image library for pictures of coal mines and tipples. It might give you some good ideas as well.

I have finished the various roofs and need to do a few more odds and ends before I paint it all and lastly place the windows (and stairs!).

I guess I should mention that I have not glued the gray superstructure to the black supports. This way I can separate them for easier painting. If I wasn't worried about how everything was going to fit, I probably would have painted the pieces before I glued any of it together. Seeing all of the adjustments that were needed to get things to line up, I'm glad that I waited to paint because all of the excessive handling would have ruined it anyway.

Naz, I guess you finally saw through my charade. You're right, I will do ANYTHING to avoid working on my trains sign1. I really do miss them. Can I come and run on your layout?

You know, my layout was in a perfect condition to dismantle and move; I hope you are not planning on going anywhere anytime soon. They sure are a pain to take apart.

I painted the Mine gray and have started the weathering. I am having a little trouble getting the exposure right on these pics...but this is very close to reality:

Next I have to put the windows in, glue the roofs down, do the stairs, make signs, paint the cement piers...................................still lots to do!

That is looking FANTASTIC!!!! AWESOME weathering too!! Mine doesnt have any rust on it, You just motivated me to finally add some to the gravel mine :thumb: :mrgreen:

Ill post some pics of the before and afters. Before pics will be as of right now which has a black wash on it and the after will be with some "rust" added in with chalks. :mrgreen:

I'm not doing interior details....however I would like some light to come through the windows but not allow a view of the unfinished interior, so I was thinking of hitting the windows with some Dullcoat (I've seen it done on engines to simulate dirty windows). Any other methods???

Well, I put the windows in, and as you can see I made several of them open. I might have to paint the edge of the open windows a dark color to look a little more natural and help the scale.

Hopefully I can get more done tomorrow or the next day.
