All white Background

I don't know if this is the place for this, but....For some unknown reason for the last couple of days I've been getting some (most) of the pages opening without the background formatting. All the titles and links are in their proper places, but there is no background...It's all white. This page (New Thread page) is properly formatted, although the Sponsors' column is overlapping the Smilies area... wall1

Anybody else experiencing this anomaly..?? Or is it just my old lunker of a computer acting up on me...? If so, what may be the reason for this..??

I had changed some settings in the style sheets. Everything looked normal to me but in the groups section though. And, I think the right column climbing on the smilies happens to people with 800x600 resolution, and Google tells me only 8% of the people visiting this site still have that small of a monitor. I can think of a few ways to resolve that, though.

  • Make the smilies two columns (then we'd have less smilies in the screen)
  • Use smaller smilies (that LOL one takes up too much room :p )
  • Make the text box for writing the message smalller.
  • Move the ads and navigation box so it's just above the first post.
Dunno if any of those will make people happy though, and it might piss off more people than it helps.

:D :D The 8% of us that can't read that small print in screens larger than 800 X 600 :)

Only one I agree with is making the "reply box" smaller... But it's no biggie - when you click on "More" under the smiles they all appear in the pop-up box :)

Pete,
The smilies are not a REAL problem, no need to mess with them (I think...). But why the white, unformatted background..?? And it's not some pages; it's random - some that open up formatted one time, may open unformatted when I go back to them, and so on....Any ideas..?

I don't know if this will help you or not...but I was having the same problem and I went to the User CP section and marked all the threads as "read"...then I went back to the very same pages that were all white with no smilies, and the background was the normal light blue and all the smilies and pictures were there (at least on those pages I brought up to view). I'm sure this is not a fix, but it's interesting that it worked.

I think that using the "mark all forums as read" will do basically the same thing as resetting your cookies. If anyone is having problems, that would be the first thing I'd do, reset cookies and cache. I've been using Firefox or Mozilla for years now and I've never seen a problem but I also have a 1024 x 1280 screen. I will occasionally find a site where I have overlapping text and graphics. I've got a zoom feature installed and can make the text smaller using my mouse wheel when that happens. I had to do that here when we first moved over to Zealot and the smiles were all screwed up.

What I don't get is why somedays I can read and see everything on the forum and other days I don't get any pictures/smilies/backgrounds.........strange.

Just noticed that the ads are now where they should be =on the right side of the page:thumb: For a while there i was having to scroll laterally as the text on the right was getting clipped when the ads were on the left. Thanks Pete.

Ok...This is where I'm at...
I first did the "Forims read" trick, logged out, turned machine off and re-started. Same problem. Then proceeded to un-install Firefox and shut-off & re-started. Some progress...When I go to the Gauge (the /f6 page) the index page opens - unformatted, I click on the Index link and the index reopens...formatted. The rest of the session goes on formatted....Any ideas as to what is going on here..??
