Good morning folks

The anticipated high of 92 F will make the first official Heat Wave of the season since it will be the third day in a row with temperatures over 90 F. We had a nasty storm roll through last night about 10 PM. On several occasions the lights dimmed but they did not go out. There was some pretty spectacular lightening. There were two houses with one mile of house that were struck by lightening. Apparently other than knocking the power out and scaring everyone in them there were no major damage or fires. The storm did not do much for the comfort level. It was still muggy and uncomfortable with a temperature of 76 F as I left the house this morning. We are waiting for a front to push through with some more storms but after it goes through the hot and humid weather is supposed to leave us.

Today is my son’s last day of football camp. My daughter has basketball camp today and her last day is tomorrow. She also has her last regularly scheduled travel league softball game this evening.

I continued working on the rolling stock I have been the last few days. I converted all of them except the two flat cars to Kadee couplers. I will do the flat cars next. I finished weathering the wheels for the flat cars and reattached the trailer holders to the decks and weathered them. I also weathered the trailers. Next is some airbrush weathering for all the cars.

Morning all [almost noon]. Slept til 9:30. Thank God for Tylenol. Was getting "down" last night. Ached all over. Sweats and then chills during the night. Feel better now.

Tom and all the Yanks. The heat and humidity is us nice Southerners sharing our wonderful weather with YUZ GIZ.

Taking it easy today. Got to vacum. Lab is sheding. Wife might come home from beach tonight so better have clean house.

Tom, I also model the Reading (the one I started with), CNJ, Lackawanna & PRR. I thought that would limit my purchases. WRONG! I should have stuck with the Reading which was the road I started with.

The training facility used to be the Crippled Children's Hospital years back.

Been astrangeweek down here the rain comesforabout a halfhour a daythen it justgets humid as hell. Its almost intolerable.

I don't know if anyone noticed but my current full time job was going to end on August 3. While it was nice to have a two month layoff notice it is even better to be able to say I have found another job. :thumb: I wasn't really worried but I did stop on the way home and bought a bunch of new rolling stock since I was in a good mood. I even bought one of those cattle cars with sounds. sign1

Good afternoon folks

The weather took a turn last night. We had a thunderstorm roll through with heavy rain and it has been raining off and on every since. It was 71 F when I left the house this morning. The high is supposed to be 80 F. My daughter’s travel softball team just got their game in last night before the storm came. Last night was their last game of the season. We are off until football practice starts in August.

No modeling last night.

Other than the bi-weekly grocery shopping drudgery we have nothing really planned for this weekend.

I would like to finish weathering the 10 cars I have been working on recently. Then I will need to clean up the workbench some and decide on the next round of projects. I should also work on getting the garden railroad back up and running.

Fire strikes the area tonight. My neighbors hay barn went up with over 100 round bales tonight. That is the bad thing about wet hay, it heats up fast. The fire company had a fun night though with four different departments and more fire fighters than I have ever seen in one place. I stopped counting after 12 pumper trucks.

There is nothing worse than a farm fire when you’re into farming. We were lucky this time and it wasn’t the milk barn. Though it did make me double check my barn tonight since we just loaded several thousand square bales and over 80 round bales last week.

Well, just got back from Boy Scout camp, and if you've ever read a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip when Calvin's family is draged to camp, you know what happens: Rain, and LOTS OF IT! Wednesday was the worst, though. BIG thunderstorm came through, and really tore up someone's tent. Luckly I was able to get all my merit badges !

That is because I ran out of scenery supplies. I have not figured out what I need to pick up. I have one LHS I use for scenery stuff and I have not been over that way in a while. Also the kids’ baseball and softball schedules were too demanding this spring.

You are so right! How does the weather know? We did Cub Scout camp a few weeks back and had one the worst storms I have experienced in some time. The lightening was some of nastiest I have ever seen. A huge tree about a ½ mile from our campsite got struck. We didn’t have tents since the boys were Cub Scouts. We stayed in a bunk house shaped like a pirate ship.

When I'm working a job, the layout goes on the back burner and becomes the catch-all for everything. Now that the job is over, it's getting cleared off this weekend and getting a good cleaning.

On the subject of the barn fire, a hay bale is one of the hardest things there is to put out. You have to tear it apart to get at the fire inside it. There's no other way. I've put out a lot of hay bale fires, square and round.
