Welllllll Since we're "Sharing"

As my friend says - I tried to fit my car in-between a tree.. No - I didn't blow my horn... so it didn't get out of my way :( :(

2 of the 3 of us almost died too - I was 20 - But we all made it through - Thank the Good Lord. :) :)

Thanks everyone. According to the insurance guy, I'm suppose to make a list of everything that was damaged(He said even the model trains!!!)...How do you put a price on something you painted and lettered yourself? Also noticed that my NARA car was damaged also.

'Ol blue is quite repairable. PM me 88fan, perhaps it can go through a rebuilding program at my shops? :) (This is a serious request)

Unfortunatly, from what I can see(I haven't picked it up yet), the damage goes right to the weight. Looks like if the weight wasn't there, Ol'Blue would of been cut in half. The ceramic house that hit it was a pretty heavy thick old one(Almost twenty years old). In fact, the chimney was the only thing that broke off.(At least I think it is its chimney)

Seems like building strikes with cars is a growing trend here in my town. Back in January, a drunk driver missed a corner and hit the fire house. Went through the wall and ended up in the shift commanders office...While he was sitting at his desk! February, another drunk driver, went to the drive in movies. Guess she was so drunk she forgot it wasn't a drive in theater. One person was injured from the wall pieces falling on him. His girfriend had just got up out of the seat next to the wall to get some popcorn. Two weeks ago, another lady drove her car into the bowling ally. Car went through the wall right up to the windshield.

It's not rocket surgery
Ed,

Glad to hear that you are ok! The stuff is just.. stuff! But sounds like Miles is willing to see Ol Blue put back together - worth a shot, I think!

hmmm, cant we make a "ol blue II" and send it on a 2007 tour? make new N scale one as well, and a O scale one. id like both N and O scale ones sent to me.

maybe put the new name on it if ya want.

Well, This was a completely volunteer thing, the car was painted by Eightyeightfan and organized by him posting notices in The General Talk section .... If you want to make a new car and start publicizing it, contact him and I'm sure he'll help you. :)

would not even have to make a new HO car if the first one can be fixed, "ol blue II" was just an idea if it could not be fixed, i could run an N scale here at home, and an O scale here at home and on the club layout, and the HO at the club layout. i wish id been in on this the first time around. but i dont think i was a member then.

The Guage Blue cars were created to spread knowledge of The Gauge RR Forum. It was run by a Gauge member... I don't really think that eightyeightfan1 would want the original car traveling anymore than I would.. It served it's purpose...

Same for the N gauge one.....

As far as starting a new car tour, like I said, you're welcome to do whatever you want to, but keep it tasteful and only 1 or 2 cars traveling at a time...

The builder of the cars should be responsible for all the "behind the scenes" workings Ex.: you have to PM the next address to the present holder of the car, so he knows where to send it... You also have to confirm that it was sent within a reasonable time

It basically worked like this:
~ the car was "Advertised"
~ a list of members was created - basically we all replied to the post with our interests
~ The coordinator Pm'd all of us for our addresses then started a "Tour schedule"
~ He packaged the car, mailed it to the first one,
that one received the car, took pics then contacted the organizer for the next address....then mailed it to the next on the list..........

If you want to do it, like I said - - go ahead, we'll back you and help you :) :) A circus car sounds neat!!! But would it integrate into most layouts as an extra car?????

The Box car was a universal thing.. BTW - it was Blue, because our old site was that color blue background with white lettering. The new car(s) could be any color you wanted.....

The N scale Gauge car was actually owned by another member who wanted me to paint and letter it for him. Sending it back to the owner, it took the Grand North American Tour, finally ending up in the owners hands sometime later.

As far as Ol' Blue, I think he had a good long life, a great ride around North America(Even taking a couple of laps on Model Railroading Magazine's project layout.)...It'll probably end up under the scrappers torch. But, I'll make that decsision when I can finally pick it up and inspect it.(Still waiting on the adjuster)

Its still the Gauge to me Mikey........

Still The Gauge to all of us too :) I only meant that the original cars should stay where they are :) I hope this can be repaired....

The new cars - if someone wants to make them and start another tour - could be any color.... The Blue is gone, but the people are still here :D :D :D And this is still The Gauge :D

Remember...it's for fun!
Ed,

Don't know how I missed this thread! Sorry to hear about the accident and damage, especuially to The Gauge Boxcar. It was a pleasure to take part in that tour and have "Ol' Blue" run around my basement.

The blue is still here on my computer, it just says "Zealot" at the top and the old logo with "The Gauge" in the middle is in a box on the upper right side of the page. It is still and will always be "The Gauge" to me, even if the url now says zealot on it.

How long do you have to wait for the adjuster? If he hasn't been there, yet, you are entitled to a reasonable labor charge for any custom built or custom painted items that were damaged. I think you would be well within a reasonable claim to ask for $10.00 per hour for your labor for any damaged custom painted or scratch built or kitbashed items that were damaged. Along the same lines, if that ceramic house that fell on the car is a collector's item with added value as such, you can claim the value based on what a collector would pay for one in top condition, not necessarily the actual price you paid for it 20 years ago.

The adjuster came last night...Checks in the mail! $4500 dollars damages.
$300 for the ceramics houses that broke and all the rolling stock that hit the floor(Whether damaged((Hee..hee)) or not. She(WOW!..was she cute!...ahem...I know..I'm spoken for) gave me $75 apiece for "Ol Blue and my NARA car that broke into pieces(Underbody, from shell..weight from underbody)
The rest is to repair the house, minus my deductible of course.

How much do you think it's going to cost to repair the foundation? That crack looks pretty serious. Will the $4,500 cover it?

Duct tape and Great Stuff expanding foam should do it....

Looks like the train budget just got a little bigger! :thumb:

Why would there be a deductible? Your insurance company may have a deductible, but shouldn't the kid's auto insurance pick it up? I know that I have a deductible on my auto insurance policy and if I have an accident, I have to pay the deductible. However, if someone else runs into my car and it isn't my fault, my insurance company waives the deductible and pays 100% because they get reimbursed from the other insurance company policy even if it is another of their policy holders.
