Animated Layouts

The Saturday Afternoon group I am a member of has issued a challenge ,Come to the meeting in August with a layout animated article, well now I hope that on the Gauge there must be guys who have animated their layouts or parts thereof
So I need some inspiration, audio is easy eg. church bells and the like, mechanical movement is a lot more difficult
Commercial animation such as those sold by " Faller " are not permitted
How about helping me out!!!!:confused::confused:

Try running a search for "animation". I know that there are a lot of them here, I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

I saw a layout once where a guy had a train station platform that was filled with people, and when the passenger train pulled into the station, the site of the platform was obscured by the train. When the train pulled away, all the people were gone! I am guessing that he had a platform that rotated 180 degrees, with 1 platform loaded with people, and the other empty.

What I don't know is if this was something he originally built, or if it was purchased. Either way, I thought it was pretty neat.

Choo Choo barn

Investigate articles regarding the Choo Choo Barn in Strasburg PA. They have an assortment of animated vignettes. everything from lil amish guys hammering on roofs to circus figures performing acts. Plenty of ideas for you there. Hopefully this will get you in some direction of where to look. Enjoy and good luck in your quest.:thumb:

Hi, I had a buddy who had a small HO layout...He was kinda crazy so he had a little amusement park scene with a working Ferris wheel, and
off to the side he had a model plane field, with a guy flying a "line" airplane that went round & round...

Hi Jimmy

Remember the visit a few months ago to Louis van den Berg's layout? He had a home built rotary dumper- what about making somthing along those lines?

I'll think of more.......

I've seen a bunch of things like animated stations, moving cars, moving people, there are alot of options for this.id say just google it or search here.on my layout i plan to have actual coal (or a good fake) that dumps from my mine into hopper cars by the way of RC plane cervos.and a Basic Oxygen Furnace that dumps toward the back drop and loaded ingots come out with molten steel.as i said earlier.LOTS of possibilities out there!--josh
