Tom: Yes PC did have Alco FAs..

Thanks I did not realize any survived that long in service on a 1st class.

The last F unit I saw in revenue service was a Western Maryland F7A in the circus scheme on the point of a Chessie westbound on the Philadelphia Subdivision crossing Fairview Road in Crum Lynne, PA. I think it was in the mid to late 1980s. Of course it was night and I had no camera.

Oldies but Goodies

Here's my contribution to the oldies theme...

- Charlotte Observer -
City Desk

A recently aquired GP-9 TT, wearing Norfolk & Western colors takes it's new running mate, a Southern Railway observation car out for it's first excursion run from the Ballantyne Passenger Station to the historic Pineville Station. The approximately 30 min run covered a short distance between the two stations but stayed off the Norfolk Southern main line - favoring a slower and more senic siding. Due to contractual obligations imposed by Norfolk Southern and Amtrak, the NC Transportation Museum - Ballantyne Division will offer excursion rides on weekends only. Museum spokesman tell the Observer that the ride has no set price, but a donation to the restoration would be greatly appreciated. This makes the third excursion diesel and passenger car added to the museum's stable of power. So far, the newly restored engines and cars have been a big hit with railfans, young and old alike, and everyone disembarks with a big smile and new appreciation for what rail travel was like only a short time ago. Ironically, the city of Charlotte is currently building a new light rail system that will utilize much of the existing Norfolk Southern track from the Ballantyne and Pineville area to the uptown region of Charlotte. Soon, passenger train travel will no longer be just a thing of the past.
