Truck pin falling out

Guess what just happened to me......
well judging by the title you already know

well i was running my trains for a while.....and all of a sudden my loco- motive let go of its 17 car freight. at first i thought that a coupler had malfunctoined but on "closer inspection" a truck was still trailling my loco and the first two cars were on their side. they rolled over the truck pin and had derailed. i dont know how the first car was still moving even after losing the front truck but.... ok...... whatever
it was really weird mansign1

I have one Accurail box car with the same tendency. The plastic pin is loose and falls out. Since the HO cars have body mounted couplers, the result is a truck that becomes independent of the car. I won't run that car until some repair.

I have that problem with a couple of Roundhouse boxcars. Again plastic pins that are just pushed in. I've thought about just the tiniest spot of glue on the end of the pin but I'm afraid it would get down on the truck and prevent it from swiveling. I might try it on one just as an expriment though.

do not use glue please!
i warn you that.
if you use glue you will not be able to take the truck off to make repairs on the body i.e. body mounted couplers.
also they break easily whence they break you will not be able to remove the pins tip.

I've also had a few truck pins fall out over the years. My fix is to use a tiny dab of Walthers "Goo" (contact cement). I use a toothpick to put it in the bolster pin hole in the chassis, then push the pin (with truck) into place. You don't need much, just enough that the pin gets some Goo on it. The pin will stay in place until you heed to remove it.

Good tips, guys. Thanks.

I had never really thought about needing to get the couplers off again. These kits were cheap enough that if one got destroyed, it would be no great loss. I think they would look great with metal wheels though.
