Hi Group, June 6th, 07.

OK, Intermountian is Comming Out with the
Tunnell Motors - The SD 45s in Various Road Names.
I've Researved 1 with the RJ Corman Name.
Also Atlas is Now Comming Out with the GP 38s, or
40s with the RJ Corman Name. Due Out in the Fall 2007.
OK I Don't Have DCC so the Question is, Are the
IM Tunnell Motors and the New Atlas Units within Say
the Last 3 to 5 Years Compatable?
Interesting Question. I Have Been Told that
Kato Makes the Diesels for Imntermountian so If True, There
Must B at Least some Compatability Between the Two
Brands as Such. Right?
Comments, Anyone.

Thanks Group,

I thought that the IMRC diesels used the same chassis as the Atlas diesels, not the Kato diesels. The IMRC power is too modern for my layout so I don't follow it very closely.

I think you could query IMRC directly with this question.

Thanks Group,

What do you mean by "compatable"? If you mean can they run together "mu'd" the the answer is maybe... I have 4 ATlas engines and none of the 4 run the same..... My 2 GP38's are the closest and are mu'd and seems to work fine...

Intermountain uses the Atlas chasis, not the Kato. I dont know if they got anything to do with Kato. But yeah, they should be able to run together. They usually use the same type of couplers too

I have run an Intermountain SD45 with several Kato and Atlas diesels and they seem to play well together and are closely matched in speed/power. I wouldn't run the Athearns and IMT's that I have together as they take considerable power to get moving and don't seem to be as close in speed and performance. This is a totally unscientific opinion though...based on the diesels I have in a DC operation...you mileage may vary.
