I was part of breaking a Guinness world record this afternoon.

One of our local rock stations, KYYS, rounded up 1,683 guitarists (official count) to all play "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple at once. The previous record was 1,300 guitarists. They tried to break this record a little over 3 months ago in London and couldn't get the job done. Kansas City showed the world how to rock today. And we even did it in one take. :D

1st pic is the registration gate
2nd pic is Santa and his posse
3rd pic is one of the younger participants
4th pic is my buddy, George, and I. (I'm the short, fat one with buzzed hair)
5th pic is a group shot of most of the 1,683 guitarists on the ballfield.

Oh Man - That's Cool!!  We had a record for Saxophone playing in Phila a few years ago (maybe 10) The local station WMMR had a bunch of them playing "Louie Louie" :) Beat the record by 100 or so....

They billed it as "Group Sax" :D :D :D

What fun!!! Great to be part of a "happening"! Were any of the electric guitars amplified? I think I see a small unit on the ground by one guy....

Most of the electric players had portable battery powered units. I've got one made by Supro and distributed by Smoky Amps. It's only slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes but it will drive a 4x12 speaker cabinet.

I saw one guy that got creative and wired an old Peavey practice amp with two 12 volt batteries and played through that.

A few just played unplugged whether they had acoustics or electrics.

I always look that way in pictures.
Mostly because when I smile I look like I have some sort of mental deficiency and somebody should be wiping the drool off my chin for me.

I saw that on the nightly news tonight. Sumptin' else...

We had a world record broken here in our area this weekend. Seems like someone outdid that Japanese fella and ate a record 49 1/2 Nathan's hot dogs in 12 minutes. Beat the old record by 2 1/2 doggies.

Now before you say anything, I never could see any sense in these eating contests. They make everyone in them look like pigs, and it's a total waste of food, but on the other hand, I doubt that any of them are going to want to eat anything else for the next few days.peasouppeasoup
