*Begin vent*

I have to admit, I love the number of posts here, TONS to see and do, but ever since the "big move", I've crashed the site once a DAY. Its getting frustrating, because when I get back to it 15-20 minutes later, the new threads thing is messed up so I don't have any clue where I was.

Ah...

Have you cleared your browser's cookies???? That helped me...

What do you mean, "crashed the site"? Do you mean you get a time-out error message, your computer freezes up or what? Do what Mikey says, reset your cookies and possibly your cache, (temp internet files) and see what happens then. A lot of people have had problems switching from the old site until they do that. Also, change your links to get here from "the-gauge" to "zealot". You can link directly to the forums this way, or even to "new posts" without first going through the home page.

Let us know if this works or doesn't work.

The thing that gets me is that the 'Quick Reply' box doesn't work for me. If I put something in it and click 'Post Quick Reply' it'll say 'Posting Quick Reply' but nothing happens. 5 minutes later it still says 'Posting Quick Reply' but nothing has been posted. So I just use the regular reply key.

Oh, no worries on the cookies or temp folders they auto clear once a week. What happens is I open the forum, open a thread, and get "page cannot be displayed" and then I cannot access anything. I usually leave, and come back later, and by then I have no clue what threads I did read.

To be frank, I never use the "quick reply" window. Considering the fact that there's no smilies there should be enough to discourage anyone from using it.    8)

But, for those that want to use it, maybe Peter can take a look at it when he gets some of the other stuff working that needs attention. In the meantime, if you do have problems, I'd suggest what you can do is to copy the contents of the quick reply window, hit the "reply" button, and copy the contents there. :thumb:

oh "that" problem..... Hit refresh or hit your back button and try again.. that happens when the database is being changed.... The server just "hgets lost" for a second or two.... it happens once in a while to me too.

I've sometimes had the Quick-Reply-not-working problem.

Yeah - me too... I just format the message.. and use smiley shortcuts : ) or : D (no spaces) for :) and :D

if it doesn't go through right away - I'll hit my back button and go to the advanced editor

One thing with the guys who report quick reply not working, it could that you have javascript disabled or something like that.

Tried that - even updated java (And Flash ) just in case :) I updated my browser too - and that helped a bit - but every once in a while it "sticks" and won't let the post go through

What gets me is the latent time it takes to load pages now. You click on a link, a new page opens and at the bottom it says done, but with nothing on the page. Its almost like dial up. You wait a minute and then the page starts to load. Its not my connection, I use it for gaming and have a 6 meg DSL, so the only thing I can think of is maybe combining all these forums databases into 1 is a disaster waiting to happen.

Sorry, if this was happening to everyone, I'd say there was a server problem, but for the most part, pages load a lot more rapidly then on the old Gauge. If you also notice, these other forums don't take up much bandwidth. We are seeing one or two posts a day there for all of them in total.

I have a occasional problem where when I see a page not loading, or get halfway and stop, it click either on the link or "reload" and it usually comes right in. This may happen once a session. On the old Gauge, there were times I could go get a cold one out of the fridge an it might still not be loaded when I get back. I've actually tried to open a page, and have gone in and did some work on a model while I was waiting... Not anymore.

I'm not making excuses, if you've got a problem, it's not only real, but an annoyance for sure.:curse: Let's hope Peter can shed some light on this and maybe find a solution or at least ID the cause.

I was going to suggest more RAM - but if you're gaming - you should have a Gig or 2 :D No clue here either, now :( :(

Are you saving images on your computer (Net Content)?? If you are not saving net info - the pages have to completely re-load. I remember when this forum was new, It took a while for the graphics to download, but once they were in my computer - the pages load fast....

So far I haven't had a problem with Quick Reply (knock on wood). wall1 Several times I've started entering a reply there and then decide a smiley is needed. I just click on the Go Advanced and it takes me to the advanced page with the reply I've started intact.

I have noticed a slightly longer delay in loading pages, but usually not much more than a few seconds. I know that in this age of super-fast Internet connections a few seconds may SEEM like a few minutes.

FWIW - Just a support note. I have not had any of the problems that have been mentioned in this thread. I am not a real computer whiz but I do know that keeping the cookies and temp files cleaned helps the speed of load and all else with web searches. I dump mine whenever I close the browser. Everything seems to snap into place when I return, click on a link, or access the forum, etc. The only time it slows down is when McAffee runs a scan while I am doing something.

Keep up the good work guys:) :)

pc config
Intel 3.4Ghz EE processor
2 Gig Kingston pc3200 ram
Nvidia 7800GS OC video
Seagate 120, 250 gig SATA drives

No probs with pc anywhere else in the world it goes to, even youtube videos load faster than this reply page did. The new graphics are cached, as this has been up for a couple weeks now. Temp files are cleared everytime I shut down IE.
