Well, after 15 years away from my trains I'm finally back into it. I cannot believe how many train forums there are out there. It's hard to pick one! This one seems to have plenty of different forums which I like the idea of very much. I'm just hoping that the people here are easy to get along with for I feel I'm basically a noob at this point cause so much has changed in the last 15 years. See you around the board!

A hearty welcome to you 0-4-0. Yep, most of the folks here are easy to get along with. Sometimes a few of us older people get a bit testy but just ignore us in that case. Incidently, an 0-4-0 Mantua switcher was my first locomotive when I got enough money together to buy something other than a MR magazine. There have been a whole bunch of changes in 15 years. Have fun. Play with trains. Being an adult is highly overrated.

Glad you found us 0-4-0! Some of us (like me) still model like it was 15 years ago...even earlier!

My first love is steam, but I run some older diesels too. So era would need to be 1950-1960 or so. Scale will be HO, cause I don't wanna replace everything I already have, and that's quiet a bit. Roadnames...now you got me! LOL! My little world will use a bunch of stuff. Santa Fe, Southern Pacific, Virginia Truckee (cause thats the best!) and UP. I can justify the V+T and the Southern Pacific on the tracks at the same time when I'm running the steam locos cause the V+T ran into Reno and the Southern Pacific did too. The others will all have stories to place them on the layout. I figure it's my little word and anything is possible!:-D

I aquired a box lot of the old AHM V&T locos that I am piecing together.
I got one completed and running and a few more pieced together but need to find a few parts.
I did some research looking for photos of the locos and find the prototype locos to be more colorful than the AHM locos and plan to repaint a few of them.
I know it's not V&T, but I'll have to show you a photo of a colorful Mantua 4-4-0 General that I am painting.

Hey Ray! I have that same 2-4-0 that you picture here but I have repainted it, it has that same tender. I believe it's a Riviossi (spelling is wrong, I know!) I'm looking for metal wheel sets the same size of those on the tender so I can put pick ups on it. I know the performance on that little engine will be greatly enhanced after that. Also I have 4 V+T cars plus the caboose that I run with it. She's slow and not real strong and that's about all she can handle with my grades anyway. I would like to get a "Reno" and a "Genoa" one of these days too, but that's not in my meager budget at this time. There are some great photo's on the Nevada State Railroad Museum and also on the Friends of the V+T site. The museum site has a photo section of ALL the V+T locos and where they are now. Very interesting stuff.
I replaced the tender wheels on my Bowker with wheels from a 70s era N scale Bachmann F9.
They pressed right on to the stock tender axles.
, then I added wipers similar to how Harold Minkwitz does his.

Sweet! Now all I have to do is find a 70's era N scale Bachmann F9! No problem! LOL!!! I may have to take the tender down and have it checked out at the big train store in Orange County. They may have the wheels in metal that would work.
