Bummed

Got a new Atlas BNSF 8-40BW for my Bday yesterday and it wouldn't work:curse::cry: ..... Couldn't pull slowly... Was making a racket and slipping(motor seemed to be slipping, not wheels) at slow speeds(20-40 on controler). When you got to 45 and up it worked perfectly... Quiet as could be. It was purchased 1/20/07 but I just recieved it 4/20/07. Parents are going to TRY to get it exchanged, but I'm not sure if that will work out. I'll keep you posted! Was a SWEET engine!!!!! Can't wait to get one that works!!!! :thumb:

Man, that bites. I just got a Santa Fe set the other day and the engine did 3 or 4 laps then completely died. I'm still waiting to hear back from the store I bought it from as far as an actual replacement goes.

It's that much worse when it's your birthday present that doesn't work though. :(

Hopefully your folks can get it exchanged!

Oh well, was a GREAT Bday anyway... Got some Nscale Black bears, some deer, and 5 semi trailers. PLus my dad built me a table with wheels for my train so I can roll it around to get it out of the way and get to all sides!

To top it all off went to dinner and as we left a Indiana Railroad engine went by pulling coal to IPL here in Indy. SO i tracked it down a few crossing down and got some good pics(have to get them developed and then I'll post em)

My wife gave me(let me spend  ) money a few weeks back for train show so I had a lot of my gifts early(2 boxcars, a Atlas BN GP38, and subscription to Model Railroader Magazine)

This is my fourth Atlas and the only with a problem. my SD24 is a bit noisy, but it runs well...

They said they would exchange it, or return it... I though about doing the return and buying one at LHS(which is what I would have done to begin with, but no one had it at the time it was purchased). They have #546 which Atlas says is Premium Heritage paint scheme. The one I got was #511 and Atlas says that is Heritage II paint scheme. Are these the same?

Nope.
Heritage and Heritage II are two different paint schemes.
One has the circle logo and the other has the cigar band on the fronts.
Personally, I'd like to see a Heritage III with a Warbonnet in black and orange.

Cannonball is right but these are the 2 locos in question , the lower one is an atlas picture of the 2nd rd # of that run and the upper should be your loco and they look the same to me????

Thank you Mike and Cannonball! I appreciate the help... Mike they do look the same... I do have one more question. Can anyone tell me how 546 light up? I know Atlas has diferent versions... 546 is supposed to have "white LED's". 511 was supposed to have Golden White LED's but the ones that came with mine seemed more like BRIGHT WHITE. My Atlas GP38 has Golden White's and they are actually DULL yellow/gold(can barely see). I've seen a BN b30-7 at LHS that had blueish LEDS.. I didn;t care for those either....
Sorry for all the question.. I don't have a chance to go to LHS and they don't have a test track(that I know of) to see the lights....

MTW, Mike.... "Las Cruces NM Not the end of the earth , but you can see it from here." LC,NM was one of my favorite places to go when I was driving over the road... I LOVED to stop at rest area at top of hill southwest of city. You could look down on town and I-10. It was especially cool at night! Isn't there a large wire bird or something at that rest area???

I was going more for the difference in the actual paint schemes than the type of loco. I think those are both full scale models actually.

I think the real problem is that Atlas says 511 and 527 are Heritage II and 546 is Premium Heritage... However, they are really the same scheme in their models... You pics are of real prototypes that DO have the different paint schemes......

Thanks again!

Sounds like somebody at Atlas was asleep at the wheel for that one. :D

Just to add to your confidence in the product, I have had the 546 and 509 for over a year and they both run exceptionally quiet, good low speed, and good pulling power. I have had them set up in a consist pulling about 23-25 cars for quite a while. I put the D-trax decoder in mine with the brite-whites. :)
